I went to a very interesting talk tonight by Jamie Bianchini about an 8 year journey he took to 80 countries. It was done a bit differently than those around the world bike trips in that he did it on a tandem by himself and encouraged people to get on the back and ride with him. Over 1000 strangers hopped on. I haven't read the book but I picked up one after the presentation. He is spending the summer traveling around the country promoting the book (SLO was his first stop). Its worth going to see. There is a trailer on this site.

Jamie is an avid mountain biker and his tandem is unique in that it has S&S couplers that convert it to a mtn bike so he can hit the hills all over the world on his travels. The bike was made by Black Sheep Bikes in Santa Cruz (a builder that used to live in SLO).

Thanks Guy for posting! I watched the video on the website and was quite touched. It's amazing that the bicycle can be such a vehicle (figuratively and literally) to promote such human bonding. It really can be an instrument to carry positive change.

Yeah, it was a pleasant surprise considering I had no idea what the book or presentation was about. It is a ride I would love to do (a part of).
