Serotta Ottrott Expertise/Advice needed

Want to pick up the 55 as my 57 is a bit too big. There is a big difference in the BB near the serial numbers... Anyone seen this or have a clue as to what the delta is?

They were machining and cutting out the BB to save some weight.

From an old thread, it appears that the bottom bracket machining was a thing serotta did for a short period of time, apparently:

my 2005 ottrott (now living on the east coast) had that large cut out like you show in the left picture.

No question the one with the cut out is legitimate. Serotta machined the BB shell in the later model Ottrotts.
