What is a Shimano FC-R563/R565 crankset? I am looking for a compact crankset to use with my Dura ace 7800 10 speed drivetrain. I ran across this on ebay but I don't know where it stands in their lineup. Is it a huge compromise?

Compact Dura Ace 7950 cranksets are hard to come by that aren't worn out so I will probably go with an Ultegra 6750 but I was curious about the R565.

Thanks

Jack

I believe that's Tiagra. Top to bottom: Dura-Ace, Ultegra, 105, Sora, Tiagra I think.

I'd go Ultegra. I don't think you'd have problems with using an 11-speed crankset with the otherwise 10s drivetrain either, someone may correct me I that...

I've got one. It's definitely in the Tiagra/105 range. It's the non-Shimano series Shimano crankarms and made in Malaysia (Where the current Tiagra and Soras are made now if I'm not mistaken). A little bit heavier, but works, similar to what 105 is in comparison to Ultegra. I got mine off of ebay from ~$30. If you can find on ~$50 new, go for it. Any higher and....well.....Ribble.

^ yup. Non-series shimano stuff. I'd say 105 level. R600 = Ultegra and R700 = DA. R600/700 show up here and on Ebay but definitely not an everyday part. I believe I read somewhere that Shimano 1st released their 5600/6600/7800 groups with no compact crankset available (they were not that popular yet) and they came up with the R series to cover that gap and later added the 6650 and 5650 compact (ultegra and 105)

FWIW I have been using a Shimano (R565) on my Zanc (I swapped the big ring for a 46t CX50) with zero issues.

I have one on my wife's bike. It looks like the old 5750 to me and shifts nicely with 5800. I would not hesitate buying it and saving some coin.

Tiagra is above Sora

Those are the same as Tiagra, very nice cranks for the price. I run a set on one of my bikes and thinking of getting another for reserve. The Tiagra branded 4600 ones have a better finish,IMO.

These are a very good deal for those running 165 mm arms. http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Shimano-Tiagra-FC-R553-10-Speed-50-39-30T-165mm-Triple-Crankset-w-BB-/231527709057?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item35e8207981

30 seconds with an acetone soaked rag and the Tiagra logo will come right off. I have a set of these (4650 compact version) with a 46t CX70 outer ring. Very nice for the $$$.
