any fav 26" slicks recommendations ? Plus points for skinwalls. Don't want to spend $$$ for something like Compass (less than 40 per tire preferably). Will be on an XO-1 clone to be used as my commuter.

I think my max width is 26 x 1.75" / 45 mm and ideally I'd like to max out the width.
So far on my list:
Ritchey Tom Slick $22

Schwalbe Kojak $22

Continental Gatorskin $38.49

Panaracer Pasela $46

PS - if anyone has some they want to sell, send me a pm

I have some Michelin City, wire bead. Good tough tire for a commuter.

Panaracer does make a 26x 1.75 Pasela. Ben's only has the 1.50

I have the 26x1.5" slicks that Performance sells for $10-15 on an old mountain bike, they work great for riding around town.

I was also gong to suggest checking Performance tires. I have used several different fat tires from them in 700 and 26 sizes. I first tried some 26x1.25 slicks and they were a bad choice as they required high pressure and any advantage they may have had in speed/low rolling resistance was more than offset by the harsh ride. I suggest 1.5-2" for best overall performance.

been running skinwall 1.75 pasela's (non TG) on my X0-1 the past year and been really happy with them.not sure if they still have many left but there were quite a few listed for less than $30 from one of larger sellers

Huge fan of Schwalbe Marathon Racers. Remarkably puncture resistant for a tire that has great road feel, is long-lasting, and not too portly.

both of the fairweather and soma you linked to look like pasela clones.probable off the same mold in the same factory.i'd use em'.that red one looks kind of funky but might look good on certain bikes

Have a look at the Continental Town and Country, I use it on my commuter bike, durable, yet slick enough.

I have these on my FS mtn. bike for riding to easy trails and then riding in the dirt---but not extremely challenging terrain. They are good, tough, a little heavy but I don't care.

My wife likes her Soma New Xpress. They were $30 about 2 yrs ago, but seems like they've jumped in price since.

I've also had good luck with Continental Town & Country as well. I do have a set I could probably let go (26x1.9--Continentals usually measure small, but I don't know the actual width on these). Maybe has 100 miles on them, if that. $15 + shipping for the pair?

you wouldn't think so, but they're a much faster/comfier tire than the Kojak
