Now i realise why cycling might appeal to John Kerry, besides all the normal reasons.

It must be a great way to discuss issues of strategy without the risk of being overheard by...all kinds of people.

Not sure what is going on with Kerry, first I heard he does ride bikes then I heard he doesn't; so I'm out on this one.

There was a picute of him snowboarding in the USAToday. No helmet though.

Kerry is a cyclist. I rode 95 miles with him in a charity ride from Boston to Cape Cod a couple of years ago. Very nice guy and he rides a Serotta.

I can just imagine what the security detail would look like when Kerry is out on a bike ride. The lieutenant Governor of Virginia, Tim Kaine, belongs to RABA (Richmond Area Bicycle Association). He doesn't draw the crowds when he rides.

Based on the recent news involving Kerry and the feds hounding him back in the 70's, I can only assume they had some talent back then.

The FBI properly disclosed their files relating to Mr. Kerry's activities in the anti war movement when requested under the Freedom of Information Act.
It was a different time. J.Edgar Hoover did some great things, but was prone to ideological and political excesses as well. Remember that he retired, then died in 1972 -- shortly therefafter the Bureau came to the conclusion that John Kerry was doing nothing illegal. I was still in High School in 1972, but during the 1980s was an FBI Agent -- lots of agents cycle and are very competitive. Lets hope that the Secret Service Agents assigned to his detail can keep up with him for the next five years or so.
