These have been in storage for a few yrs, bought 'em from oldpotatoe awhile back.

We had some rain this week (on my day off, of course) and that got me motivated to finally get them out and mount 'em up.

Gilles Berthoud carbon fenders. Light and minimal.

They can be mounted with some quick release hardware, but decided these will be on this bike for awhile. Minimal negative aero effect (;)) and total weight ~ 200 gms.

er...thwart-pal, I don't see any fenders...are these the latest "invisible" offerings? :)

seems like lack of clearance could cause problems....like every leaf and twig and pebble.

They certainly look minimal. How well do they work?

Love the bike..

Like the look of the fenders.. but how effective are they? Seems like it would keep spray out of your face and the classic black line up your back.. but I think your legs/shoes are still getting soaked

Though I can't imagine riding that pretty bike in the rain to begin with

I thought the Cruds were minimalist but these blend right in.

Pretty sure thwart knows how to wrap up details, so I'm sure they work as intended.

I prefer migration to riding with fenders ;)

How can a bike that is ridden look so pristine? It is a beauty!

At this point the number of rain rides is one; just installed. They did a decent job of keeping me dry, and absolutely no rattle or other noises.

And at least so far, so stuck twig or similar catastrophe. This is not a commuter bike, and not intended to be used in heavy rain.

But wet roads won't dissuade me from getting out for a ride now. And yet the look and weight of the bike are almost unchanged, so still a candidate for the 'fast' rides… well, at least what passes for 'fast' for me.

I've had Berthoud fenders on my Rambouillet for over 10 years. While minimal, they do a great job. When you consider the width of a tire's contact area with the pavement and the related spray when wet, these fenders catch most of the water.

The only drawback with Berthoud fenders is the rear one is not especially long, therefore anyone riding closely behind will get hit with spray.

Cheers.

Looks great, especially with the matching black stripe on the tires.

Awww, yeah! I've always wanted a set of these ever since I saw a set mounted on a race rig up in my old NW stomping grounds. Love the look, and the "form meets function" side of me totally digs the look of 'em.

Nice work Tom, but if I see you post a wtb in the classified section for a set of panniers for your DeRosa, I'll start to get worried.

Very nice. I need to find those fenders. What a great way to be able to get out in the (light) rain.
