Saw this on my local bike club thread, it sounds like there may be an issue brewing with these cranks/BBs. If you have these, I would replace them.

Happened to me on Bay Hill. Both cranks just sort of fell apart. I thought is
was too much power! ;-)

My S-Works was about probably 5 years old at the
time. Thankfully it was uneventful.

Make sure it gets reported to Specialized. Looks serious.

Mine is right at 5 years, and I have right at 30K miles on it. About a month ago, I started getting a gritty sound and took it to the shop. The bearings were going bad. I figured with almost 30K miles, maybe its time to replace them. Nothing last forever. In any event, the spindle looked fine, they replaced the bearings and I'm riding the heck out of it again.

Like the crank arms and crank rings, there could have been evolutionary changes to the spindle over a period of time. There could be an iteration that is defective. Hard to tell. Anyway, I am not going to worry about it. When my bike gets to the 50K mile point, I'll likely throw it away and get a new one.
