No sure why these KMC 11 speed links are running around $15+ on several sites and a few LBS. I've bought 10 speed KMC links for about $5.

Anyone find a source of these links for a more reasonable price? Either north or south of the border.

Cheaper across the pond. If you buy them in bulk you will save some $.

There is a reason I'm asking the following...

Did you try using a 10 speed link???

Nope, never tried it. Just assumed spacing was different enough to be incompatible. Have you had success with a 10?

It'll work but may 'click' a wee bit..about .4mm wider than a 11s link. When 10s was brand new, 2000, used lots of 9s links on Campag 10s chains..

Amazon 6-cards have always been the cheapest in my experience. Why screw around to save a couple bucks. Get the proper link. I use them with 5800 chains. Works great.

To the OP's point... a 6-pack of 10 speed links on Amazon is $9.45. A 6-pack of 11 speed links on Amazon is $32.46. Charging 3x the price for 11-speed is kind of sad.

Could be...but...that doesn't equal $15/link...it does, however, equal ~$5/link.

IRD links are about twice that.

Ride 5000 miles a year, maybe 2 chains, 3 years of links at about $5.50 per link, $11 per year....that's $.03 per day... Maybe the 10s ones were loss leaders?

Stick with the 11 speed link.

Spotted 10's at La Bici for $5 cdn. They might do 11's for same ? Have you checked ?

I have a spare 11 if you need one like now..

Getting them from Amazon.com or amazon.ca works out to ~$54 CDN to your door for 6 links. $9/link. Not cheap.

From the UK (Ribble), $6/link to your door. 33% cheaper.

IF you want a SRAM 11 speed power link, $5 +HST from MEC.

I was gonna include the link in a Wiggle order but when I asked them to clarify on the quantity per card, they confirmed that it's just two "half links" for $15 CAD.
I saw Amazon.ca did have 6 for $48. I haven't emailed to confirm but I got a feeling it's only 6 half links. Not confident that an Amazon CS rep would really understand what I'm talking about either.
Haven't called Bicicletta yet. Getting out there is a bit of a drag. Dufferin isn't very car or bike friendly.

I've got a spare 11 right now from my Athena Velomine order 2 years ago. They're not too bad at $8.50 but tack on the damn northern 27%.

I do have three 10 speed links (6 half links) left over from my 6600 days. I'm open to experimenting a bit.

For $15, the 11's should be reusable IMO.

"For $15, the 11's should be reusable IMO." <-- I do agree with this... well the thing is that kmc at least have a tool to remove them, since a few years ago they changed the design so is not that trivial to remove them anymore.

The other thing is that the 0.3 mm (or whatever it is) they shaved to the link at the outside to make it compatible to 11 looks like is way too much to make them reusable??? so now we have to trash them? :D

Years ago they should had dumped produtction of 7/8 and 9 speed chains and produce only 10 speed chains... they work all the way from 7 to 10... now with 11, you can use a 10 speed chain but gets noisy... but works (in case of emergency), in the case of the missing link as potato said, it works, tight fit because the think is 0.4 mm wider but damm it makes your life easier at the time to remove them and reuse them, add that the price and availability of them and f-it... 10 missing links is the way to go so far today, no idea tomorrow.

The "half link" is a full connector. 2 per card is enough for 2 chains. All chain connectors are 1/2 of a link. A full link is an outer section and an inner section, the connectors are just an outer section.

BTW, they can be opened and closed during the life of the chain but should be tossed when the chain is replaced. They do stretch, and putting a used one on a new chain will cause ware on the drivetrain.

This is what wiggle was talking about:

Guys that own multiple multi-$K bikes griping about a $6 quick link? Come on. They cost a little more. BFD. Sheesh.

There is some truth to what you are saying and a "first world problem" kinda vibe for sure, but a few bucks is one thing and paying 50+% more is another. Don't forget that there are folks that saved for there fancy bike and have a limited maintaince budget. These things can add up for some. Besides, in Canada we often pay way more for stuff just because it is canada. This is even true for stuff made here and sold way cheaper in the states.

Well, I found a source of $5 ($CAD) KMC 11 speed links tonight.
Urbane Cyclist has them. I woulda swore I called them before and they quoted a higher price. My memory does seem to be going these days.

...I've been reusing the links over and over with no issue. 10sp links work but make an annoying tick.

10 speed KMC link, suitable for reuse, does not fit tightly on a Shimano 11 speed chain. A Wipperman Connex 10 speed link fits the 11 speed Shimano chain well. Haven't tried a SRAM 11 speed link, SRAM chain or 11 speed KMC link or chain.

A little off topic, but can anyone enlighten me about using KMC 11 speed links with a Campy 11s chain? Any issues worth mentioning? Thanks!

I've used Campy, Shimano and KMC 11sp chains with IRD/Yaban, SRAM and KMC 11sp links, all work fine with each other.

Been doing this for over a year..no issue. I use the pin for first install, then the KMC for next after cleaning..I don't reuse tho..they are cheap.
