View Full Version : Does this image mean I can't use a tire lever with the wheelset?

Just got an Ultegra wheelset, and this interesting image was attached to both wheels. It seems to indicate that I can't use tire levers with these wheels, but hey, how else are you supposed to get those tight tires mounted? Maybe I'm just not interpreting the thing correctly?

Shimano says NO. I would do it anyway. Remember, no rim tape with those wheels if they are tubeless ready.

Crap, they were tubeless ready and I already put on rim tape and tires. Is the rim tape going to cause a problem with these?

Are these 6800 wheels? If so, no rim tape is needed. I dont think it will be a problem but it could make it a pain in the ass to mount tires. Thus the need for levers.

I recently received a set of those too, they mount by hand but you need to squeeze the tires keeping them into the valley or well of the rim as you work the last of the tire into the rim.

Yep, they're the 6800's.

Well technically the circle is around the wheel and not the tire lever, so I think they mean don't use the wheels. :)

Maybe it's just those three spokes that you can't use.

Sounds like you'll be pulling out some rim tape soon.

I think shimano doesn't recommend using a lever if your going to be using the wheelset in a tubeless application. Read it here an interperate, starts on page 29.
