We've got a thread for photos so how about one for videos? I have to believe that there are others besides Weisen and myself who are stitching together videos from our rides.

I'm curious to see what sort of roads you're riding on and the traffic you're contending with. Please share.

I use a GoPro Hero 2 that I picked up a few years ago. I've tried every mount imaginable from helmet to chest to bar and have settled on a K-Edge (http://www.amazon.com/K-EDGE-Garmin-Computer-Interface-Cameras/dp/B00MSL4LBI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1428203977&sr=8-1&keywords=k+bar+mount) bar mount. It works best on my road bike.

I typically keep my camera rolling for the entire ride and process my videos with iMovie. I'll make mental notes along the way of scenes that I think may work well in the final cut. It's all about the editing in the end.

Background music is a nice thing in my opinion and I get most of mine through a couple of sites that allow you to use their music without fear of copyright infringement. All they ask is that you give them credit in the information area of the video. Here are a couple of sites...here (http://freemusicarchive.org/) and here (http://betterwithmusic.com/).

My most recent video is from a ride this past Wednesday. There was a strong south wind and I knew my one and only Strava KOM was in jeopardy of being captured by someone else. I went out and gave it all I had while shaving 2 seconds off my previous best. It held up to a challenge later in the day from a group of 5 so I was pleased.

Here's the video (https://youtu.be/6QKtLdSCWmU).

I hope others will contribute to this thread and give us all a better look at what you're experiencing on your rides.

Thanks!

i don't often film my rides, but when i do, i film descents. well, so far only 2 descents, and one featuring hay-eaters. no music, just wind and some "woohoo!"-ing.

riding with horsies in glacier national park (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PpuZ0uW04II)

descent in northwest NY-holding a canon g12 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ajTHDAgq_Dc)

yes, i know 1-handing it just under 50mph going downhill is ridiculously dumb, but alas...for science!

Nice, but get a handlebar mount of some sort. I use a gorillapod with a conventional camera. I did buy a Sony video cam on Black Friday and need to start using it.

I find the handlebar mounts are a must vs holding something in your hand and trying to record video. Here's a bit of an embarrassing clip I took several years ago when I was first beginning to experiment with capturing ride video. This one involved holding my phone in my mouth while shifting gears.

It didn't work so well. (https://youtu.be/bC5c7Jk0SmY?t=18s)

I can't seem to escape the wind this spring. Yesterday was another day of battling strong winds but I'm sure I'm a better rider for it...maybe just a little more tired.

For some odd reason I typically do this route in the reverse from how I rode it in the video last Tuesday. I enjoy how a change like that can give a different perspective or feel to a ride.

Let's be clear, this video is not me. It's someone I know who knows how to race in the pro class. I'm old, I kinda know how to edit and had a camera. So we teamed up.

Crit - Rain - I show what one full lap looked likes and then, as best I can, what is' like to race and this dude knows how to race . . . I think it came out OK. Music is fun, too. He got top 5. Here are some elements: Mark McCormack, gapping the field, dudes with gels under their bibs in skin suits and no where to be seen when it counts, rain, corners, dudes moving up 5 spaces in the last 100m . . . you get the drill.

It wasn't quite 50s f when I left home this morning to meet up with some friends, one of which was doing his first road ride. I typically ride solo but this was a nice change of pace for me. It was nice to hear Hynek talk about how much he was enjoying himself. I think we have a new one among our ranks!

Yes, I think the driver opening the door into me was more surprised than I was. He sorta shrieked. It was a good thing for Hynek to see as his experience on a bike has been mostly on mtb trails.

Latest one taken this past weekend with me trying out bikepacking for the first time on the Surly Trucker carrying almost 80 Ibs worth of camping gear.

The only thing I can say is....the trucker RULES!...even though the total weight is astronomical.

165 (man) + 30 (trucker) + 80 (gear) = 275 Ibs !!!

80 pounds ??? For a weekend outing?

Weisan, many folks cross the entire country with far less than that. I'm no expert, but I think you need to put your gear on a serious diet.

Yes, one-pal! It was really quite fun on that downhill stretch especially on the trucker...I mean, that thing is so stable especially when it's all loaded up with gear, I just let it ripped, no braking, nuthin', it's actually quite an eye-opener to compare a bike that is built specifically for loaded touring to my regular road bikes. Different tools and used correctly, they each fulfilled their intended purpose very well.

I have no qualms about bringing the trucker on an extended 80daysroundtheworld trip, it's built really really tough, kudos to the folks at Surly.

Here's a closer look at my setup.

Wei-pal, the guy who road around the world didn't have 80 lbs of gear! Did you bring a Coleman stove and a 6 person tent?

So, Niles favorite road is chip-seal? Crazy!

Looks like fun and one of the best parts of our State. It looks like some trees are starting to grow back from the devestating wildfires of a few years ago. Yes?

Tire-pal, don't worry, I know what I am doing, this is a "test", I added stones cut out of the grand canyon, just want to see what it feels or rides like with an over loaded bike going through the different terrain, road and weather conditions. You never know, one day I may have to haul my catch of the day all the way back to basecamp.
http://i27.tinypic.com/n63rps.jpg

I think what Niles appreciate about Siloh is riding through farmlands, not so much the chip seal.

No, none of the trees are growing back, they have to replant them.

My Mukluk has served me well for the past 3.5 years but it was time we parted. I'd been looking for something a little lighter with front suspension and I found it in the form of a carbon-fiber Sarma Shaman. It's such a fun ride and as I tell others about fat-bike riding: the bikes are time-machines. They'll take you back and allow you to find the 15 year old residing inside you longing to come out.

You reminded me of a couple of rides I recorded recently. One is a local group ride I did two Saturdays ago, called Walburg Waltz (https://vimeo.com/130825104) and the other is just around my immediate neighborhood called Mason Hills (https://vimeo.com/131343247) where I captured the dramatic sunset that appeared after several days of non-stop raining.

I'm really loving a ride I've been doing lately. It's a 21 mile loop (http://kevinandtammy.net/ride/murphy_hanrehan_loop_21_miles.png) out to Murphy Hanrehan park 6 miles from my home. There are 9 miles of single-track there that challenge this road guy in many ways.

Up until a few years ago I knew nothing about mountain biking or these trails. It's a whole other world of riding and it has me excited to get on my bike in ways I haven't felt for years. I like to say that my fat-bike is like a time-machine. You can't ride it and not feel like you're 15 again.

One pal, that's usually what happens when the King's carriage come by, everyone sort of go into recluse. :D

Meh, I dunno...this is an expensive neighborhood with million-dollar houses, it's around noon time, maybe folks are already out on the golf course, or staying home looking over their portfolio... I have no idea, it sure is nice. Just about the only traffic are the construction people, they are still building out the rest of the parcel of land.

I've been off my fat-bike for a month while it's been in for service. I ditched my carbon rims in favor of some DT Swiss aluminum. I needed something more durable, something that would be a lot less likely to leave me stranded out on the trails in sub zero weather. I've gone tubeless with the new setup.

I also had my RockShox front suspension overhauled so it will function in the bone-chilling temps that will soon be the norm.

I made the pilgrimage from Boston to Bourg d'Oisans. A week in the Alps will do wonders for your soul. Galibier, Glandon, Croix de Fer, Alpe d'Huez, Sarenne....it's so worth every penny.

After a long travel day I got to the hotel around 4pm, went out to dinner then to bed early. By 10am on my 1st full day I was on my way up Alpe d'Huez and then over the Sarenne. A 48 mile loop with 5800ft vertical.

Just over the top of the Sarenne I came across a sheep herd (pictured). Here's a video from the 14 mile decent back to Bourg d'Oisans. Hope you like. (GoPro Hero 3 with 'Chesty' mount)

Charlie, I've seen the video (https://youtu.be/SVWP6VaLtvw) of you guys riding this hill in the early days. Very cool and how nice to have someone do what this filmmaker did by featuring you as he has. You deserve that!

I just want to personally thank you for your vision and pioneering spirit! I didn't discover the absolute blast of mountain biking until 4 years ago and now I'm hooked. I tell people that my fatty (https://www.flickr.com/photos/onekgguy/23538490430/in/dateposted-public/) is like a time machine because when I hit the trails on it I'm immediately transformed into a 15 year old kid again.

Weisan my friend...thanks for the videos. I hope your friend wasn't too badly shaken up by his crash on the downhill.

It looks like your riding friends have fully embraced the flashing white front lights. I should probably as well. It's not getting any easier out there with all of the distracted drivers.

Thanks again for your input to this thread. My wish is that more people would post videos of their rides and give us all a look at what they're experiencing.

I finally made it out to the mountain bike trails at Elm Creek (on the north end of the Minneapolis metro area) last week. It's an 82 mile round trip but I so thoroughly enjoyed myself on Friday that I went back up there Sunday morning.

I don't typically mess with skinnies but a friend of mine encouraged me to try. I'm glad I did because they're actually quite challenging and a lot of fun, especially when snow covered.

Thanks Kevin pal, you are the one who got me started on this :D
One of my riding buddies saw my Garmin a few weeks ago and asked if I would like to get another one, that he got a brand new one sitting at home unused, I jumped on it. And his is the elite version that comes with all the info-data built in, that's why on some footage you would be able to see the speed, distance, gradient etc.
It's definitely getting heavier with all the gadgets on the bike but hey, I am not complaining, I know where I can lose weight :D

It's been a while since I've raced a bike so there was some anxiousness going into this race. I did my homework and was pretty confident with my preparation. What an absolute blast! I raced in the fat-bike division for which they didn't have any age groupings. I managed 3rd place among the fatties overall and was very pleased with my results. I can't recall ever working harder on the bike for 5 hours and 17 minutes. I left it all out there on the course.

Kevin, nice music selections and editing. Are you using a bike mount, because there is very little bounce and jitter?

Thanks, Simplemind. Yes, I'm using a handlebar mount and editing with the iMovie programmed that was preloaded on my MacBook. There's a smoothing feature that eliminates much of the shakiness. The guys who are seriously into this sort of thing are mostly using chest mounts with a gimbal. I see that sort of setup in my future for trail riding but not for the road.

I spent a couple days last week in my old stomping grounds of Huron, SD. I very much enjoyed riding some roads I hadn't been on it 32 years. Lots of memories came flooding back.

Not my video, but I'm in it. This BBC programme [sic] by writer Robert Penn is the companion piece to his book, It's All About the Bike (https://robpenn.net/books/its-all-about-the-bike/).

Penn came to Fairfax, California and rode the legendary Repack Downhill for the cameras with me and Joe Breeze. We get ten minutes of the one hour broadcast, "The Ride of My life (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=leg9iYK-9E0&t=1763s)," starting at 29:00 if you're in a hurry.

There was a strong south wind and I knew my one and only Strava KOM was in jeopardy of being captured by someone else. I went out and gave it all I had while shaving 2 seconds off my previous best. It held up to a challenge later in the day from a group of 5 so I was pleased.

KOM? Where's the M? :)

One pal, I hope you were not hurt too badly from that fall.

We had an unusually cold ride this past Saturday during the annual fund raising event Armadillo Classic hosted by our local bike advocacy group called Bike Austin. The temperature at the start line was 35 degrees. It was in the 60s and 70s just a couple of days ago, a big drop over night on Friday. Anyway, here's the video.

35° is a nice temp to ride in if you're dressed appropriately. I much prefer being chilled at the start and for the first few miles than being overdressed and too warm once my body's furnace kicks in.

Looks like a nice group you have there. Thanks for sharing!

What camera and mount are you using? The gravel road video was just as smooth as the bike path! Or is this the magic of YouTube stabilization?

I'm using a GoPro Hero 4 with a handlebar mount. I remove what shakiness I can through the smoothing fearture in iMovie. It works okay on flat roads and paths but not so well on singletrack trails in the woods.

My team did the Ultimate Challenge a couple weeks ago. It’s not a race but it’s an event our main sponsor supports (America First Credit Union)...so we do this every year and roll in together as a show of appreciation for them. They Love it! The final climb is timed but everyone does their own pace and waits at the top about 300 yards from the finish chute, we re-group and roll in together. The crowds always seem to love it. As you can see we have a pretty big presence...that sea of Orange jerseys is HUGE visibility for the sponsor...in front of the same crowds & TV cameras for the TofU Pro race.

About 10,000 feet of climbing / 100 Miles.

The Ultimate Challenge is stage 4 of the Tour of Utah. You finish about 30 minutes before the Pros do in front of the same cheering crowds. It’s pretty awesome to get hand up, pushes, words of motivation, etc on the same finishing climb (which is pretty brutal) the pros will a bit later. Watch to the end and you’ll see what I mean.

It’s a mix of video from a GoPro Hero5 session mounted under my bars and some iPhone video from a guy driving our support vehicle. I’m the guy on the silver Wilier, cheesy grin, with the orange-lens Speedcraft sunglasses

I haven't been doing much riding lately after a summer full of more longish rides than I've done in years. Not mine, but a promo video my friend put together for the group I ride with..

Every Saturday in the off-season it's the same 30mi loop w a coffee stop. And it's drawing in a great group of people who share a love for bikes and camaraderie - which is what I'm all about these days. There's one traffic-free climb where folks can go all-out w a regroup at the top, otherwise it's riding together and just enjoying being out there doing our thing.

I share this because I think it's the model that's needed to revitalize road riding - and it's one that's probably replicable anywhere.

The club kit being developed is pretty sweet too.

Kevin, its one of my favorite trails in Nevada City. Several popular trails, Hoot, Scott's, and Pioneer start from Harmony Ridge Market off HWY 20, 18848 State Hwy 20, Nevada City, CA 95959. Not sure how many miles of single track, lots! You could ride 50+ miles of single track starting from the market.

Never take any of that for granted! That's awesome! 🥂

Thank you simple pal. I missed the text from Rick at 4:49 AM or I would have gone. I was in the garage mucking around with my new Serotta Fierte bike. :p

The weather was gorgeous!

I finally made it out on my Giant Revolt Advanced 0 gravel bike. It was a beautiful March day out yesterday with the temp in the mid-40s to low-50s and light winds. I've had my Revolt for 2 months but this was the first good opportunity I've had to take it out in search of gravel. What a sweet ride it is! The shifts are so crisp and I love the splayed out bar drops. I wasn't sure how I'd like them but they're very comfortable. I still have a few tweaks to make to get the fit dialed in but I'm close.
