So I recently acquired an almost complete Zeus track bike. There was no chainring and the BCD is a weird 119. So my buddy sent me some 119 BCD chainrings, but they don't fit over the arms of the spider. Do you guys think I could machine the (roughly) 2mm difference and be safe?

I believe what you are looking for is something like this.... those arr 120 bcd, no 119.

Got that from hillary stone.

If it was mine I'd go for it. I have some Zeus rings and there's certainly less material on the inside of the bolt holes than what that ring has; I'd guess it's less than 1mm from the end to the recessed part of the hole. You can see that in the pic that Ultraman posted.

And 119 is the correct BCD. FWIW, occasionally track rings in that size show up on eBay.

Having tried this a couple times, here's what happens: The chainring bolt holes have to match up. Exactly. Just shaving the inside of the ring doesn't get you there. And all five have to match up, and as you grind to fit one, the others are moving sideways. It's very hard to pull this off and I believe that the actual holes will be in slightly different places even if you ground the rings down perfectly.

You can find Zeus rings. They are pretty cheap and there are a few online sources that carry a bunch of that stuff. I'd find them that way.

Zeus wasn't bad equipment but it wasn't Campy. The rings were quite soft and wore quickly and made more noise than they needed to. I once had a Zeus crankset and the whole crankset was off-center -- everything was eccentric, from the pedal axles to the chainring. Not great. You might check yours before you go too far.

I'll look a bit more online, Hillary Stone is a good idea. Ebay seems only to have a 45t, which is a bit small. This is the bike I'm building, pretty excited about it.
