The No. 22 Bicycle Company won Best Cyclocross bike at NAHBS! No.22 builds their titanium bikes in Johnstown NY and the factory is staffed with mostly ex-Serotta employees.
It's great to see these guys have success so quickly after their startup!

WHY do people display a bike without PEDALS?
It's not a functional tool without them and looks, well, unfinished...

grad school = welder?

I really want learn to weld. I believe anybody can do it if they really want to. It's a artisanal skill and fun. Now is it good use of a grad school education? That depends...If said subject is using their time framebuilding to learn the biz and eventually open their own shop then I would imagine so.

Thanks for the congrats and compliments, all. Scott, Bryce and myself are driving back to Johnstown right now with a U-Haul full of bikes, still glowing from a great show.

Lots of catch-up to do after the flurry of NAHBS prep, but it was great to meet so many people that had already heard of No. 22.

Are these your bikes or some bikes that you may have been tempted to borrow? ;)

All the kids are going without pedals - it's a Zen sort of thing. Like regular cycling except not as fast.

I talked with them at the show and they were all very informative and knowledgeable. Their take on the "Ottrott" with carbon seat tube and Ti topper was pretty nice - actually very very nice. They will also build the cross frame as a canti bike for a slight upcharge.

Must be me, it's a great bike, but I just don't know if I can agree with the judges. I would like to see a 29er from 22er.

Must be me, it's a great bike, but I wouldn't call that the best x bike at the show.

Ok then, the best cross bike at the show was...?

Perhaps a group ride from your shop to their shop this Spring.

I was a pipe fitter, not really an everybody can learn the skill, even for Union dues paying professionals. If your buddy was chosen by a ti frame builder, he must be an outstanding frickng welder! On the other hand, what was his MAsters in?

Old school, but I love my Deda Newton Deeps. Nice build there.

Reminds me of the 24 inch wheeled kids bikes with grown up handlebars. Those bars detract from the rest of the build ATMA.

that bike needs compacts or at least some rotundos but great looking bikes none the less.

Great bike.

Carbon seat tube and any seat mast is not my thing, but it shows great workmanship. I just like straight ti bikes. Bonding is better now, but to me, the reason I would buy titanium is because I see the benefits higher than carbon.

So keep your chocolate out of my peanut butter.

I still like No22. Great job.

That was one of the owners/employees personal bikes. It weighed around 13# I was told.

The awards are kinda a joke, IMHO..what makes this or any other 'best'? They are all really good, great, amazing.

pretty much. its like picking a super model. they're all great looking, but how do you know the best until you've taken them for a spin?

As ever, I'm in the minority on this but think compact handlebars ruin every build they appear on, so I'd take these ones any day. Of course, none of that matters once you're actually riding :)

grad school = welder?

I was in grad school, he was in undergrad at the same time, we were both on the university cycling team and rode for the same club team in town. About 1/2 way through his BS, he decided he wanted to pursue frame building and transferred to a local tech school to get a degree in welding. He built a couple of his own frames using a jig that miraculously came up for sale in our area.

The guy works like an animal and is talented. He will go far for sure.

. . . of this bike here:http://redkiteprayer.com/2015/03/nahbs-2015-part-iv/

Padraig of RKP was the chief judge, so their site has a variety of stories about the show. In several he mentions directly that attendance was down this year in both exhibitors and attendees. Several awards were not given because not enough bikes were entered.
