Finally got a nice Merckx yesterday semi-locally. Been on Craigslist for a while...surprisingly. Very happy with it and very excited to get it built. Will be looking for some stuff to embellish it. Seat post, saddle, etc. Most likely a Selle Flite. The deal also came with a 99 Record Group. Most of it NOS.

Have a set of 2005-2006 (I think) Record hubs that I'll be looking to get built. Thinking the same set up that my Lemond will have. RR440's with black spokes. Spring is basically here. Time to get in the saddle.

Pretty frame and pretty group. You will love this.

Don't do black spokes. Silver record is a thing of the past. Treat it to silver spokes. I would do hard ano tb14s but 440s would be onmy short list.

Cool project. Stuff from this period is new enough to be ridden effectively and old enough to be classic and collectable.

Nothing like the scent of spring in the air, and a new bicycle project to get you going!

The Merckx looks very nice and almost unused!

I've always wanted to throw my leg over a corsa 01. I've got an mxl and have ridden a corsa slx previously. Curious how it compares in stiffness and weight.

That is a really sharp C01. I bought one from Jack Brunk several years back in this exact same paint scheme. It rode wonderfully but unfortunately it was just too small for me to get comfortable on. :(

Good luck with the project. I think you're really going to like it!

It's a 56cm. Very excited to build it up. Thinning out the herd to just a couple of bikes. See how this one rides and then it's time to make some decisions. :)

Yes, silver spokes on TB14's looks great with silver hubs. I built a set of wheels like this and they look sooooo good.

If ya want to send me the hubs(and rims?) to me I'd love To build the wheels.

I can get 440s(OC rear), but yup, silver spokes- SAPIM...

Take my word for it… black spokes look OK on this frameset.

Cool! How do you like the ride? I'm thinking some black TB-14's and black spokes would look slick as well. Tough decision.

Cool! How do you like the ride?

Well, it's really, really good on the rollers…

I'm a little later in the same phase you're enjoying. A winter build, new to me.

That beauteous chrome won't ever know what salt and slush feel like. At least not on my watch.

I hear you. Looks like you have Record and some tb-14s?

I owned the same color scheme Merckx in size 57 for a number of years and it was my No. 1 ride for a long time. I regrettably sold it as my need for a more commuter-friendly bicycle surpassed my need to go fast. Very nice handling bike.

So, I know the thought of lacing black spokes with my 2005-06 Record hubs is a bit unconventional but after seeing my new wheeset of silver White Industries hubs, black spokes, and RR440's its a no brainer. Black spokes for this set as well. The black spokes make the silver hubs absolutely pop. The wheels came out gorgeous. :)
