I'm starting to hoard parts for an incoming "shingle surfer", uh, no, "aggregate ambler", uh "macadam mauler" ... nevermind.

I need a 700c disc rim. Why not choose the CL25? Slightly lighter, cheaper than the SL25. Eyelets. Less "aero" FWIW. What am I missing here?

You're not missing a thing, in fact you're on the right track.

The CL25 is the "sleeper" in my rim line. I designed it as a XC racing rim, but it has been far more popular with commuters, cross racers, gravel grinders and disc road bike riders who want a low profile rim. It's a great all-rounder. See the other thread

While I am a dyed in the wool HED wheel fan, I recently got a set of the built up and dm EXTREMELY impressed with the quality of the rims and the resulting wheelset that resulted.

Very smooth, fast, and light enough to not make me worry about durability

I haven't tried the CL25s, but have a pair of wheels I built recently with the SL25s (thanks Kirk!). They seem great. Only ~100 miles on them so far, mostly commuting, but I can say they built up very easily, look good, and ride really well so far. I like the SL25 rims a LOT!

Just scored a set of PL23, for inventory...like 'em! More than TB-14, better finish, IMHO.

It appears they are readily available with 36 holes as well for vintage rebuilds. TB-14s with 36 holes...not so much.
