my wife and girls are helping her folks move
while i'm home...on call...
watching the badgers win the hockey final
the twins lose to the indians,
eating halibut steak
and carving out the excess deck from the cockpit on the kayak build...
but interspersed through it all was riding (all fixed).
to and from the hospital for rounds,
meeting a friend mid-ride for twenty smooth hilly miles
then riding on/off road by myself...
...smooth and rough hiway...
muddy, single-track lowlands
and dry, tree-toppled ridges.
i was out 'til after dark,
used my new hope light
and came home feeling like i'd been run over by a truck!
...and did i mention a five mile paddle in the middle of everything
on the purest flatwater in the lakes that are full to the brim...
today, i have the ottrott ready for a change of pace
and am going out with a high school senior who's relatively new to cycling.

Nice boat. At least someone got sawdust on the floor this winter!

...we've gathered sawdust
piles of sheerclamp shavings,
long strips of mahogony
and epoxy droppings...
hopefully she'll have as much fun
paddling it
...and it will track well.

Spidey...this gets wierder and stranger. Does the company have anything to do with my old log canoe racing crowd?

I have built several of the Pygmy boats, with the Coho being my favorite. I would imagine that it paddles very similar to the West River boat you are building

when we built our first boat 4-5 years ago...
there was a great article in canoe and kayak
as we were starting the project.
one couple each built a boat simultaneously.
i thought about doing a chesapeake and a pygmy...
...one at a time was best for me...
maybe when my 11 year old is 13
she'll want to choose a pygmy...
...although she's been checking out models, etc
and likes the looks of the arctic hawk!

I have spent some time in the Arctic Hawk, it is a REAL nice boat. My favorite all time kayak (and I have paddled many many) is the Coho with the Artic Hawk being a very close second. The fact that I like the Coho slightly better than the Artic Hawk may be that the Coho is more familiar to me as I have spent more time in it. I have tripped in the Coho but have not paddled the Artic Hawk loaded.

and do the north to south isle royale trip
from mccargoe cove to lake siskawit...
or maybe just paddle the south shore
from rock harbor to moskey basin.

Beautiful area, I have wanted to paddle Isle Royal but have not been able to put it together. The last time is was in that region was paddling the sea caves on Devil's Island, beautiful when Superior is calm enough!

in fact, i have a print
an aerial view with rocky island as the foreground
back toward oak island with scattered clouds
above my office desk...
...the campsite on rocky
is my favorite place in the world
to rest my head!
my best day paddling was out to devil's and the sea caves
on the flattest water ever
and then overnighting on rocky
before coming back to the mainland.
48 miles on the water in 24 hours!
what a trip!!

Sweet boat. I love paddeling.

in the recessed hatches
and skip the skeg or rudder
and see how it performs first.
then we have end pours and varnish
before getting it out on the water...

I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product
after seeing all the sawdust,
but more interested in when the next biathalon is scheduled?
(I think my arms have fully recovered from the last one!)

I couldn't stay silent forever,
but wish I had something more exciting to say
on this "auspicious" day....

and reason for fanning into flame
this cycling passion...
...nice first post...
thanks!
you'll have to take this one out for a spin
unless you want to go with the tandem.
we could tandem paddle
then take out that tandem track bike at the lbs!
