Anyone have first or second hand experience with the new BDop DTO-40 rims? I'm not familiar with the brand.

- 40mm profile height
- 26.5mm width
- 18.0mm/25.0mm inside/outside width at tire
- toroidal shaped
- tubeless compatible with deep center channel
- disc brake only (not just an existing model minus braking surface)
- 410g
- $600 shipped per pair

I could swear those rims were $800 a few months ago when I was looking at them...

They have some reasonably light 24h hubs, too. Hmm...

I've thought about picking up a pair myself for my Volagi Liscio. I like the design, 40 deep and 26 wide. I'm still debating if I want to stay with discs on it or move to rim brakes.

Bdop is a fairly regular poster on bike forums in the road section.

A lot of new products, the cassettes look good.

Are you a fan of aluminum cassettes?

I haven't spent a huge number of kms on the rims but they built up well and feel nice to ride.

First link states that the rear wheel weighs 8g more than the front. Is that a typo?

The weights are 663 front / 789 rear (1452 total) on my scales.

Any interest in a group buy from BDOP? I emailed him and he said there would be something like a $25/rim discount from the bulk shipping.

Thanks for inquiring.

I'm interested in a pair... preferably if they can ship direct to each buyer (vs. shipping 40 rims to one guy, which would decrease the cost benefit and increase hassle).

I think I am going to order a pair. Those are really sweet and I wanted a road-ish wheel to run on my Warbird.

I asked about 4-6 pairs.

Here is what he said-

Thanks for the email.

I'm sure we can work out a discount. Will all the rims be shipped to one address? Or maybe two at most? This would save around $25.00US/rim off the top.

Please let me know a final count and shipping address(s) and I will issue a quote to you.

There is a deal to be made.

With the little ride I do I dont care too much about the material of the cassette. Will last me a long time even is made of plastic :P

Thanks Geoff

I built the frame at UBI with Paul Sadoff from Rock Lobster. The second link in my original post talks a bit about the frame.

The rims built up well, they've stayed true, and they're nice to ride. The front gets pushed around a little by the wind, but it's 40mm deep so that's expected. The rims are light so the wheels have a responsive feeling to them. I've got another disc-road bike in the works and will probably use the same rim on that one as well...if that's not a testament then I don't know what is :-)

Missed your response...Great story you linked there. Very cool!

Thanks for the great feedback. Want to build some up very similar to what you put together.
