It's a master and a really nice color combination, but the bidding battle surprised me. Someone's got the fever.

That is a gorgeous bike. Too bad it's so tiny. Sigh...

Especially since it's in Austria. I mean, what could go wrong?

For what it's worth, I've had great dealings with overseas sellers. Generally, people are pretty decent, it's just the ones who AREN'T that everyone remembers.

Made with Columbus tubes, getting to be harder to find. Not sure what tubing is used now. New, Masters are $2500+. Love mine, one that will never leave my possession. Happy that one is way too small.

Why? I had one on my 1999 Colnago but quickly "upgraded" to a Force when I decided I had to have the latest. The precisa was lost and I dont really remember or have an impression of the ride as compared to the Force.

Agreed- US or overseas, there are good and bad- you just need to do your own dilligence.
Good looking frame/condition- dont think the bidding is too much out of line at current price.

What a beautiful frame !

It is very small which is hard to find and it is in excellent condition, also hard to find, so a bidding war ensues.

I think I remember reading somewhere that the very small Masters could not fit a straight blade fork properly that is why this fork is curved. In fact, those curved forks are hard to find, it might even explain the number of bids.

Masters go for big money, especially to countries like Japan or Thailand where the vintage craze is still going strong.

That sounds right to me. It appears to be a rare bird. I'd love to see some Master catalogs showing all these 80s paint jobs.

More likely this does not have a Precisa because it had not been invented yet. This is fairly obviously an 80's frame, and Precisa was created late 80's/early 90's. The curved fork looks like the correct fork for this vintage Master.

Sorry to be the one to rain on y'alls parade but...if y'all want to discuss this frame etc, move this thread. Everyone's actual classifieds are getting bumped by this conversation.

Thank you all for being considerate.

I bought my Master Olympic from that seller and it was a great transaction. Person knows and respects vintage bikes, especially 'Nags. I wouldn't be surprised if that clean and pretty example fetches over 2K. Good thing I am on a self-imposed bike buying moratorium. But man that is nice. . .

Oops-mistakenly thought mktng was knocking the precisa...

No Precisa. No Thank you

for that vintage of master, the curved fork is correct. the precisa came along with the next version, the master-piu.

of course you can find some early master-piu with the curved fork, but that's when the introduction occured.

That is a ridiculously good looking frame. Every line, color.....wowsers. This is why Colnago has the reputation it has. Just Beautiful.

Ahh, very interesting, I didn't think of that, thanks.

Here's one in Toronto with the curved fork, the price isn't too bad either.

i bought this from a guy in austria. i've also purchased frames from other "foreign" lands such as the netherlands, france, china...and even brooklyn.

its all about buying the seller.

This one is another example of a mid-eighties with the curved fork. Only one water bottle on this frame though. Supposedly this was hanging on a wall as art in Hungary... It rides really great.

I know one guy who that would fit, and I hope he's bidding on it.

Fits, dangit. Should I sell my C50? What are the rules of building up something like this with newer components?

The first thing to consider would be spacing at the rear.
