Spending next weekend back in the South Bay and the first time back since we move last summer. Would love to get out on the bike and get in 2-3 days of riding while I'm in town, but can't bring my bike with me.

Anyone know of a place to rent a decent road bike, or have backup bike they'd be willing to loan out for a few days? Specifically looking for something in a 58/60cm set up.

All my riding buddies in the South Bay are quite a bit shorter, so the only loaners I can find are 56cm or under, which is too small for me. We're staying with friends in Palos Verdes, so it's killing me to be there without a bike!

Thanks in advance.....glad to repay in copies quantities of good beer or libation of your choice.

KJ-pal, my former contact in LA is Tom Byrnes. He is a member of this board but haven't posted for quite a while, which may or may not indicate absence as he might just be lurking like most pals. Tom-pal is one of the most generous person I know and his bike collection is drool worthy...extra bonus, y'all ride the same size bike!!! :p

I was in LA several years ago for a conference and Tom-pal gave me complete freedom to use his Ottrott which I did to full effect. In fact, I remembered the most enjoyable ride I did was starting from Manibu, went along the beaches all the way to Palos Verdes and back. Fun ride, awesome bike!

If you want to rent cocos variety rents for pretty cheap. they're like steel chinese torker road bikes but if vanity isn't your thing i'd say give them a call.

Helens Cycles rents road bikes, I believe. You can try their South Bay store, Marina del Rey as well....but, I think you will have the most luck at their Santa Monica location...

Probably not the most convenient, but it's the best I got for you...:)

If you have to ask, you can't afford it....

And, my bikes are too big...also, I am not so close to where the OP is going to be staying.

I know, just pulling your leg. Your price goes up the minute a movie star plunk their bottom on your saddle at the set.

BTW, I normally ride a 54-56cm bike. It was a stretch to ride Tom's bike. The smallest he got was his 58 ottrott but we managed to make it work or I should say I was determined to make it work because I want to ride so much when I was there. Beggars can't be choosers.

Great shop....used to use them quite a bit when we lived in the area. Unfortunately the biggest they have is a 56.

Helen's in SM has a range of stuff from CAAD10s to Dogmas but they're not cheap. $150/3 days for a CAAD10 is the cheapest option.

My other alternative is my buddies Vitus 979, but I'm betting it's going to be too small. Will keep looking....

bumping to see if anyone else has any leads. Only option at this point is to rent a bike from Helen's, which isn't really in my budget. :help:

Anyone have a bike that's just dying to be ridden? I promise I'll only take it on nice, long rides: targeting Mandeville, the Donut Loop in PV, and a long Sunday up PCH.

I'll gladly loan out any of my fleet (Dogma, C50, Team SC, Team Z bike) if you're ever in Austin!

Check out spinlister.com. Fairly new, but may have a bike that would work for you.

It is pretty new so not surprising you have not heard of it. Glad you got sorted.
