This happened right after take-off. The plane's an ATR-72, in Taiwan.

Nose down, step on the good engine, as much right rudder as ya got.

Lost his left engine, aircraft yaws left, right wing more lift, rolls left, bad news. Right aileron makes things worse. Particularly with relatively small rudder and engines a long way apart. Ugly.

Am I the only one who saw those pictures and thought how supremely unlucky that cabbie was?

it's really hard to tell from the video, but it appears that he is a little nose high and then tries to pull up when he figures he's going to hit the bridge and the plane departs as a result. Not clear to me that he was trying to change heading. Plane was clearly going into the water, but the attitude was unfortunate.

That might have been a clever thread title if no one died.

Unfortunately people did die. Not so clever IMHO.
