View Full Version : Max tire size Trek 2300
I just picked up a Trek 2300. With the aluminum frame and carbon seat stay. Does anyone by chance know what the max tire size- width that I can use on the stock bontrager wheels?

The limit will be the frame and fork. You can run a 40+mm on most road rims no problem.

can you measure the clearance around the tires on there to make a good estimate of max?

Bontrager wasn't a Trek company when the 2300 with carbon stays was made. Typically that bike would have had Matrix rims from Trek. Most people couldn't get more than a 25 or 26mm tire.

I ran 28c gatorskinz on my early 90s composite 2300.
Bike is out of state at relative's house so I can't take any measurements but definitely has Bontrager gear Would like to convert this to a "Gravel Bike" if at all possible

Happens to be my dedicated trainer frame. The limiter is the brake bridge.
This is a 24 mm measured tire. You might squeeze 28 spec that measures 27. Dish will need to be spot.

Convert to 650b and you can run a fatter tire, that's what i did with an older Bianchi, make a very capable gravel bike.

My 2005 Trek 2300 came with carbon seat stays, Bontrager wheels and 700x25 tires.

My mom's 2300 won't fit anything bigger than a Conti 25. Read that as a 23.5.

Bontager was bought in 1995. There was at least a decade of trek 2300s after that.
A 2300 with 650b wheels sounds kind of fun.
Does the tire have the least amount of clearance to the frame, fork, or brake calipers? I know bike did come stock with 23mm tires.
