Bought a used bike and came with some nice clincher wheels. Looking for opinions on the wheels and whether they are suited for my intended riding.
Wheels are:
Pacenti SL23 rims
Tune Mig 70/Mag 170 hubs 20/24

I think these would be fine for road riding but what about gravel/dirt? I weigh around 155.

I don't know that SMOOTH gravel/dirt requires stronger wheels than riding on pavement but if you may get into areas with holes and bigger rocks I would want 32 or 36 hole wheels.

I wonder if a bike that came with these wheels has clearance for tires wide enough for the kind of riding you may want to do. I can ride nice gravel on 700x25 tires but I like it better when I'm on 700x37. :-)

I'd feel comfortable riding just about everything on those wheels. I run 20/24 on my King/Belgium Tubulars and race cross on them as well as riding gravel on 25s. I weigh about what you do and often times ride like a bull in a china shop. Assuming they're built well, I wouldn't worry about it.

Wheels came on a cross bike so can certainly get bigger tires. The wheels currently have some 33c Tracer Pro tires now....

Good wheels, they should serve you well.

You'll be fine. Hell, I rode a lot of gravel on 20 spoke Khamsins with 25's and I weigh 180. I eventually broke a spoke on the front... because I rode directly into a log.

So I think we all agree that those wheels are rubbish.
Please post them in Classifieds immediately.

fwiw Mr. Ergott built me some 20/24s on SL23s for whathaveyou riding, and I'm waiting for them to explode...I'm still waiting.....I'm still waiting.

Who built them and how did they build them?
A good build with good spokes should be great for gravel.
Ergott built me something similar (except I went 28 rear as I already had a 28 hole hub).
Put Stan's rim strip on them and some good tubeless tires and you will be set for gravel.
I particularly like the Hutchinson Secteur 28 if you are limited in size, Specialized Trigger Pro if you can take a 33mm.
