my mother just had a TKR. my knees are dodgy and fear i'll need hardware replacement down the road.

GOOD LUCK!!!

be interesting to see how this stacks up against TKR in terms of being able to resume a vigorous/active lifestyle and for long-term durability.

here are some images and a vid of this new the replacement meniscus.

Having studied biology and genetics undergrad, and paying attention to what's going on in the life sciences industry, especially immunology and stem cells, I'm convinced that within 10 or 15 years we'll have solutions that make current technology seem crude.

I think it's way too late for you. It's meant to prevent the years of operating with a damaged meniscus that over the course of time (in my case, > 50 years) leads to osteoarthritis and cartilage loss. When you're as far gone as I was, and as you say you are, this thing wouldn't fix it. I'm 8 weeks into a lateral partial replacement.

P-man, how is the partial going so far? I'm heading for replacements but my doc is not big on partials.

My wife had a uni knee (partial medial) 9 years ago and it's fine.

I agree that it does not seem to offer full recovery for cycling based on this quote from the linked article:

After this procedure, patients no longer need prolonged protected weight bearing or braces. They can wean themselves off crutches when they’re comfortable and progress to normal activities when tolerable. - See more at: http://wexnermedical.osu.edu/patient-care/healthcare-services/sports-medicine/get-me-back-to-my-sport/knee/meniscus-clinical-trial?utm_source=Social&utm_medium=web%20feature&utm_term=meniscus%20MMR&utm_campaign=Meniscus%20MMR%20-%20Kaeding#sthash.CnFQ1cGy.dpuf

I will celebrate my 2 yr medial partial in two weeks. I'm quite pleased with the results. I'm 63 yrs old, how bout you palincss (age that is)?

I hope this gets to market soon. I had my left medial meniscus cut this summer, and during the rehab I jacked up the right. I'll be needing that one done soon.

I hope this isn't like getting on a builder's waiting list, if so, where do I send my deposit.

Excellent. I'm still banned from the road for another month for fear of what might happen in the event of a fall, but it's been a couple of weeks since I had any trouble getting the cranks all the way around, and I've been walking just fine for a month or more now.

Partials aren't for everyone. My damage came from an accident in a soccer game in 1962 that destroyed a lateral meniscus, and the doctors tell me I was a textbook case illustrating the Rake's Progress from meniscus damage to osteoarthritis. The rest of my knee is perfectly fine.

If you're really an ideal candidate for a partial and your doctor isn't keen on them, my guy is Kevin Fricka from the Anderson Orthopedic Clinic
https://www.andersonclinic.com/ It's a specialty of his.

I am 3 weeks and 3 days past a right total knee replacement. I delayed the surgery for 3+ years, having good months and then not so good months when it hurt more than not on rides. This past fall my speed slowed some, it was more painful to climb, and I was just finally tired of pain, ice, and days off the bike because of knee pain. And, that is my good knee, the one replaced.

If you do not have later state OA, then the implant looks promising. If it delays or one hopes prevents the need for TKR, then that is a breakthrough.

As an aside, I made a full backward revolution on the bike (on my Kickr) early this week, then a full forward revolution mid-week and I managed to spin for about 20 minutes today. Recovery is in progress..... I am 70 and hope to ride about the mileage this coming year as I did last (6k with 250kfeet climbing).
