don't they record those bikes as stolen if they're gone from dock for > 24 hours?

You can do it and incur late fees, but I wouldn't be surprised if a nice email got them an extended rental for publicity purposes.

I don't think they had the bike that long.

It was a great effort but I thought the Mt Ventoux video was much more exciting.

Wow unbelievable! I cannot imagine how he got that bike up that mountain. I don't care how fit he was.

I think they only rented it for 24 hours and drove there/back in a day.

They would definitely have late fees since you're only allowed to check them out for 30 minutes at a time (45 min if you're an annual member). The late fees after 30 min are:

30 - 60 minutes: $4
60 - 90 minutes: $13
Each add'l 30 min: $12

So checking out for 24 hours would be pretty costly, though I'm sure they were planned and budgeted for in a project like this. I just meant that a polite email to Citi Bike, along with the normal deposit, may have earned them a waiver of the fees.

The Ventoux trip was great because they had to get the bike back to London in the 24 hrs. My recollection is they got it back in 23 hrs 59 minutes and ?seconds.

In London the Boris bike is 2 pounds for 24 hrs. Plus 2 pounds per 30 min after the first 30 minutes. The bike must be returned in 24 hrs.

I have ridden the bikes in Paris and they are so heavy I could not believe it.
