New take on an old question. Know that 10's and 11's are not cross compatible (MTB and Road Groups do not work together)....and that a 9 speed XT would work with 10's road stuff. Does the 9 speed MTB derailleurs work with current Shimano 11s' road. Anyone here running it on their adventure bikes?

I assume you are talking about MTB 9s derailleurs with road 11s shifters--I don't think there is any cross compatibility 10/11. The cable pull ratios are different. It might accidentally align somewhat, but I really doubt it.

Pretty well established that the 9's Shimano MTB Derailleurs play well with the 10's road groups. The Dynasys 10s MTB der does not.

According to Zinn...

"Shimano’s mechanical road 11-speed cable stroke is a road version of 10-speed Dynasys for mountain bikes"

If you didn't already notice, 5800 rear derailleurs have a medium cage option with an official max capacity of 32t. My guess would be that these could stretch to 34t with the B screw properly adjusted without an issue on most frames.

Yeah...and the Ultegra 6800 comes in a medium cage as well that accommodates a 32. Part of me wonders if the MTB would be a little more robust. More than likely, it's me trying to overthink the issue. :help:

No. BUT shimano 10s MTB 'might'.
