I'm not sure if this is a shot in the dark, but I'm tweaking my uncle's 80's Bianchi and it has a 25.4mm quill stem with 22.0mm quill diameter. I want to put a better bar on, but I'll have to get my hands on a 26.0/22.0 stem........do they even exist??
Plan B is use an adapter and go threadless, but I'd like to keep the aesthetic if possible.

I am keen to either know where to order one, or if anybody has one in good shape just picking up dust, in need of a new home I have just the place ;)

Any help is appreciated!!

22.0 is a French size. 22.2 is the standard'italian/japanese ect. 1" quill outside diameter-might you be confusing the two?

As Pinkshogun mentioned, that 22 is a big question mark. Even if that is what is in the frame, it's likely someone put the wrong size in there (based on the frame). Double check that before moving forward.

No confusion, the old stem is the french size (on a Bianchi? first i've seen on one of these) and i want to use 26.0 clamp bars so I need the o/d quill with 26.0 clamp.

unlikely but maybe the fork was changed to something French

The steerer tube inner dia. is 22.05mm to 22.15mm. I need to mate the new stem to the steerer.
Definitely need 22.0mm o/d quill

I may just sand a 22.2 down to size. I've seen it done, but wanted to see if 26.0/22.0 existed out there.

Cheers for the quick replies!!

It is original, or painted professionally to match (possible). Surprising, if it is original, I agree with that.

3ttt made some of their Record 84 model in a 22.0mm. Hard to find but they turn up on ebay now and then.

While I doubt there is a 22.0 bianchi, you should try a 22.2 in there. Maybe someone just had a french stem and put it in since it works.

Otherwise just get 25.4 bars.

I have tried a couple. I wouldn't post here without doing everything i can on my end first.

Everything is original as far my uncle knows. He is the original owner.

Hence the mystery!! ··· is it doing with a 22.0mm steerer??? Right?!

25.4 bars not an option, the only ones in the right shape for the job are 26.0.

What is the OD of the steerer?

Headset is a 105 HP-1050, 25.4mm x 24tpi

Actual measurement of steerer o/d is 25.2mm avg.

I would talk to someone about reaming out the steerer.

I can do that at my shop no problem, but how fun it is to dig deep with some fellow geeks.

So what is the plan with the bike? Just a new stem and bars or are you doing a full update?

For the moment, just a tune and cockpit update. Everything is in really great shape, as it hasn't been ridden much in its life. He did some triathlons back in the day, and trained on it. But I would guess max 1000 miles total.

If I get him out on it enough, we'll start the talk about updating the drivetrain or the bike altogether.

I wouldn't do that. I was questioned for a lawsuit(as a bike mechanic, not the guy that did it), for a stem that was made smaller, then broke.

Get a 22.2 fork, and have a whole world of stems to use.
