Just taking a poll here... When you hear "wooden bike", what do you think of?
"I'd like to try one..."?
"I'd hang one on my wall..."?
"I'd prefer my bikes to be built out of something other than lawn clippings..."?
"Meh..."?
Wondering if they have anything more than looks going for them.

Look cool, appreciate the craftsmanship, but don't see myself ever owning one.

+1....would like to take one out on a longer ride to appreciate it more. Seems more like a novelty than a go-to material. Same with bamboo.

It won't rust, but I'd have it tented for termites every 5 years.

Here's a couple of threads on this subject...

A friend of mine owned two Renovo's (one after the other), but ended up sending them back. Really nice looking, but they were too flexy for him.

Thanks for the links. My searches kept coming up blank, but that could be due to the app...

Balsa wood is pound for pound stronger than steel - but that doesn't mean it is a good material for bike frames.

I'd like to try a wooden bike, bamboo in particular, but I don't think I'd ever buy one. At least not new.

For a different take on the idea, a co-worker just this week mentioned this company to me:

I'd like to try one, but the "nice" wooden models are priced far out of my range.

I'm really curious, too, about bamboo frames. I went so far as to buy a scrap mountain bike with the intent of cutting out some of the main tubes and replacing them with bamboo. Haven't gotten around to that project yet...

So, if prices were lower for "nice" frames, would wood be good? Or is it just not an inviting material to ride?

The sandwich looks like fun for a "really short distance" bike.

Interesting video about Renovo wooden bike manufacturer. Yeah, I would get one.

+1

Or for decoration on the wall, if it's one of the "especially beautiful finish" models.

Nah.

Like many things, a solution going in search of someone else's disposable income.

Not mine.

I think some look pretty nice, but as a card carrying clydesdale, I don't think it's in the cards having one stiff enough for me......that isn't made of 4x4's.
