I have a 50 tooth 130BCD chain ring on my DA 7700 crank. Unbranded from what i can see with no ramps or pins. The front shifting is OK but kinda crappy for DA. Do they make such a thing that will fit my crank? THere's this but no ramps just pins - will there be an improvement from what it have?

I suppose that depends on what you consider to be 'good shifting'. I have used Stronglight chainrings like the one pictured and I think they shift well.

But....but I also think that rings with no pins/ramps shift fine and I consider the difference between them and rings that have both to be negligible.

Just some trouble small to big if conditions are proper. Proper = Going from small ring when in smaller cogs and cadence not too fast or slow.

Also the current 50t ring may we worn, shot, etc as it came with the bike in a used purchase. I'm not qualified to say. Maybe something new is all she needs.

In the old days I looked at the new Shimano chainrings and modded my Campy rings by filing off half a tooth max, less than that before, so that I made my own ramps. I ever had problems dropping my chain.

I contemplated drilling a hole, tapping it, and screwing in a tiny machine screw for a ramp but never did it. I'd want to use a screw that had a tiny allen head and resembled a pin, I can't think of where they're used (electronics?) but I've seen them and fiddled with them. Oh, larger versions of the screws that held my DroidX together.

If the chainring is in good shape it might be an interesting experiment. Use a 50T that has pins/ramps as a guide.

I recommend FSA N10 50T 130 BCD, not S10, big difference.

It will fit the DA 7700 crank. Shifts are very good, much better than Stronglight and Specialties TA. Mine is paired with a SRAM 38T inner ring. Shimano CN-7901 chain improves shifts also.

The DA7800 50t is probably the nicest option available. Not cheap tho...

Available lots of places. (http://www.ebikestop.com/shimano_dura_ace_7800_50t_130mm_10_speed_b_type_ch ainring-CR1821.php)

I bought that same 50T ring as well to replace a 52T on an FSA Crank. It shifts perfectly every time.

On a bike with a triple to replace stock 52/39/30 I bought from Peter White the Specialites TA 42 middle 53 outer both with ramps and pins. With a 105 front derailleur going from granny to 42 is great but 42 to 53 is acceptable but not what I'd like.
