Any of the locals in the Providence area know of any good gravel roads nearby? I know heading to south county there are quite a few places, but I'm trying to find some that are reachable via bike from Providence? Can't seem to find any gravel/dirt around....

Just throwing it out there as I've searched the web for a while with little results.

VAV and I explored some very short sections of dirt right off the East Bay Bike Path in the East Providence section. just look for the small openings between the bushed and jump in

also, picking up the Cranston path that begins at The Lowes on Cranston st. is just about 7 miles from Coventry which has nice roads without the city traffic

the Rhodekill loop as Ebauman mentions, begins in west warwick on the Cranston Bike Path. it has some hard pack dirt easily done with street tires

march 29 is the second annual Rhodekill ride.

Ponagansett Road in Scituate is the nicest road I know in New England. It's just perfect. You can do a nice 30 mile loop to it and back starting in PVD. Take Central out.

I just "rode" it via Google StreetView - very nice.

Here's one of my favorites near my house:

(go SE on Fiddle Creek)

Only problem is that to get to it you have to do a pretty tough, but short, hill.

Edit: It isn't gravel, but why do that if you don't have to?
