Thinking of tracking down an Assos airjack jacket. The one listed here is priced right & the color I'd like, but too big I'm sure. Problem is, I don't know what would be good. I think a large, but the sizing guide says medium. Does anyone have experience with this jacket? I'm 5'10", about 160, wear something like a 33 sleeve. Wrapping a tape measure around my chest gets 96mm. Sound like anyone wearing one of these? What size are you using? Too expensive to get off eBay without at least an educated guess.
Thanks. Next I'll ask how to tie a bow tie. ;-)

FWIW I'm 6'3", 165lbs and Assos size large jerseys and jackets fit me nicely with what I consider a good race (not club) fit.

Assos is always going to be a racier cut outside their mille range of garments.

Their sizing guide is true to size on their site. Go with that.

Also, expect it to for weird off the bike. But once you're on the bike....butter.

I'd venture a medium based on Assos's sizing chart. A rough rule of thumb is that Euro sized kit is one size larger than the equivalent in US sized kit. I.e. a US L = a Euro XL. Write Assos to confirm as they have good customer service.

I'm 5'11, 165 lbs, 99-100cm chest. I am a perfect L in an Airjack 851.

Ok, this helps. Thanks guys. From what you guys say, it is looking like I should trust their sizing & go with a medium. Now to find one.

Thanks, but black is the one color I don't want. I, personally, want to be a big, ugly, rolling bit of color. I do like the look of the black, but it would make me very nervous to ride in.

No worries, I totally understand. I'm out in the sticks and where I typically ride there isn't much traffic, so I don't worry too much about being high-vis.

If riding in the sticks without traffic comes with the jacket, I'll take it. ;-)

Late to the party, but for another datapoint:

I'm 6'0", 172 lbs, no freakin' idea what my chest measurement is, but I too am a perfect L in an Airjack 851.

Thanks Bob. Looking more & more like I should trust their sizing chart and go with a medium.

I am your size, 5'10", 160 lbs. I have a measured 39 in chest and wear a size 40 suit. I have the 851 in large and a few other Assos jackets in M. Both sizes will work. The large 851 will have just a tad more room, which is good, in my opinion, for wearing various thicknesses of base layers, depending on the temperature. The only downside is the size large jacket is also a bit longer. I don't like long jackets. I guess I have a short torso and long legs. The medium will feel very tight while you are standing up at home. Once you get on the bike and lean into the riding position, the jacket will feel more appropriately sized. A medium sized Assos 851 will work for your size, but will be a tad more form fitting and a little shorter. Tradeoffs, I guess. I have a medium Fugu and it feels really tight, in the shoulders and chest area, when just standing around. On the bike, however, leaning forward, the fit is simply perfect.

I would think a medium 851 would be on the borderline of tight.

I'm 5'7" and 143lbs and the medium fits me just about perfectly.
I'd think most guys your size would be more comfortable in a large.
The cut is really trim if you want to wear anything under it.
Even with just a t-shirt under my medium, there isn't anywhere the 851
is loose on me, it's a snug fitting jacket, and hardly any difference from
one size to the next.

5-10.5, 150 lbs, Assos 851 jacket size M. Fits just as they wanted it to, I suspect.

Great piece; they've been going at a good discount around here lately...

My 851 in large measures 18.25 pit-to-pit and fits me snugly with just the right amount of stretch...I am 5'10", 160, 33" waist, with monkey arms. I prefer a race cut on all my garments and wear a medium in Capo, Castelli & Ralpha tops but a large in Assos. My hunch is that Large in Assos is best bet for the OP.

173cm, 135 pounds, medium assos 851 fits perfectly. Fits slightly loose with a sleeveless baselayer, a little tight, but not andre griepel tight, with a thick baselayer.

Today, the temp was 22F, wore it on a three hour ride with a smartwool nts 250 baselayer, and it was just barley warm enough.

+1 on the above.

I am the same dimensions and have a large 851 and medium Fugu. I have never wished the large 851 was a tighter/slimmer fit. Conversely, I have often wished the medium Fugu had just a little more room. If I was going to purchase again, I would buy a large Fugu.

As Grant McLean posted earlier, there appears to be very little discernible difference between a large(40.15 in.) and medium(39.4 in.) Assos 851.

One more data point, FWIW... I'm 5'10", 160-165 and Medium fits fine. Perfect with just a baselayer, little snug with baselayer and LS jersey (but that is only on rare occasions). I could see the benefit of going to a Large, but the medium works.

If I were you, OP... I'd say go with a Large. If it is only slightly larger, I think it will prove to be more versatile for you.

Yup! ;-)
But I thank everyone for the input. Guess I need to decide what I'll wear under it.

Nighthawk, thank you. That is very kind. I'm going to try to find a store that carries Assos this weekend. If I come up empty, I'll do that.
Stuff like this is why I hang out here.

Hey no problem. Jut let me know. There's snow on the ground here and I start classes again after MLK, so will be too busy to ride anyhow. Holding out for Spring at this point.
