Greetings everyone. Currently have been on the hunt for a nice vintage steel lugged Lemond frame/bike in 55cm/56cm for a while now.
A TSX Lemond Team Z is the one I'm really after.
SLX is great too! As you may or may not know, these are not easy to find. I just wanted to throw it out there to spread the word.
If you know of one out there, please let me know. Budget is $1500 - $1750. Will go higher on a very nice example. Grail bike for me.
Thanks a lot! :)

Looks like a 56cm was posted on Washington DC craigslist on Christmas day but it's gone now.
I've had good luck using a Craigslist search aggregator to find stuff in cities I'd never think to look in. You'd be surprised what comes up for sale more frequently than you think.
Good luck with your search!

That one has been listed for a while. It has Chromor tubing which I'm not too keen on getting. Thanks a lot though!

He's looking for a Lemond about 10 years older than that.
Here is a 57. Keep in mind these things are long and low.

Too large for me. Actually owned one of these a few years ago. Awesome bike. Had to sell it because I needed the cash.

Trying to avoid Chromor. I currently have a 55cm 98 Malliot Jaune that fits me perfectly. It has a 55cm seat tube and a 56.5 top tube. I have short legs and a long torso which makes Lemonds a nice fit. I think Lemond rode a 55cm seat tube with a 57cm top tube. I'm wondering if a 57 would fit me? I'm thinking it will be too large.

I just stripped Centaur 10 off my Lemond but thinking later this year I may put C-Record on it and go for a period build. Those bars would be awesome.....kicking myself as I had them before and gave them away free to a forumite a couple years ago as I never thought I'd find the Z team frame. :crap:

Good luck in your search, you'll love the bike once you find one. I had one a few years back and it was a great bike that turned a lot of heads. It was too small so it's now part of a nice gentleman's collection in Taiwan. Be patient, they seems to pop up in threes...once you find one you'll find another shortly after that.

With a budget like that why not have Roland Della Santa make you a bike and do it up with a Z paint job?
About 14 years ago I bought an NOS TSX Lemond in a 55cm for about $450.
It rode fine, but not really a holy grail bike. I ended up using it as a winter training bike. That thing weighed about 24 pounds once I had fenders on it.

I still kick myself for not buying this when it was available:

I saw that....pains me. I'd like to know who bought it so I can see if he's like to sell it. My perfect size.

That's a good idea actually. I thought about having "Mr. Ciocc" build me one a few months back.

It probably wouldn't stretch your budget. Roland works quick and cheap given the quality of his output.

So, after some diligent searching, I think I found a candidate. Looks like a Bilato bros frame. Don't really know the type of Columbus tubing but I'm thinking and hoping its TSX or SL judging on the fact that the brake wire goes through the top tube. The frame isn't cosmetically perfect but hell, it looks pretty good to me. Great price too. Might make arrangements to have someone pick the frame up next week. Here are some photos:

Bad luck the op wants a z team one, because I know where one of the original lemonds built (one of the few) by della santa in new condition, record C group is located.
White, black lemond letters and built with record C if im not mistaken, the best thing, it is for sale. 56 center to center I believe.
The next option is the black one I had, sold it to a forumite and he sold it to a guy that lives one town down the road, that bike (mix match campy stuff, really bad fit also) is in craigslist here in DC for maybe over a year because the dude is smoking pot with the price. Maybe you are lucky and the guy wants to sell you the frame.. that one is a 55 center to top I believe, fully chromed underneath the black, chome stays and stuff, looks like the frame is still mint maybe with 2 little scratches, exactly how I sold it.

The one in DC is Cromor tubing...overpriced. Is the white one you're reffering to TSX? It will have a TX and a measurement stamped on the BB.

No idea, probably is a TSX but the only thing that gets that one off any of the other ones built in europe is that is part of the 1st batch of lemonds frames built in the US, I believe no more than 16 or 20 frames were made, then the manufacturing went to italy.

If it look like this, it's a Bilato frame.

The white you posted it is a made in italy one, the problem with those ones is that noobdy knows certainly who made them and all are different, like if one day they decided to chrome all the frames... another day they ran outta crownforks and used another design and stuff, there's no consistency in any of the italy era of lemond, some were bilatto, other ones looks like were made by scapin so you go figure, but you can put 2 frames of the same year and color together and they will look slight different in the details (not geometry).
The black bike in DC, the dude is definitely smoking pot and trying to get his money back, wonder for how much was sold after me.

I know the white bike that Ultraman is referring to, it's a genuine Della Santa built frame with a respray by the original painter. And it's gorgeous. Didn't know Wayne had it up for sale, last time I saw him we talked LeMonds and he indicated he would be keeping it for a long time.
Know what you mean about the black bike in DC, back pics, bad setup, high price for what it is.

Honestly not sure either but last time I went there I could swear I saw a tag price in the handlebar. If not well... the OP will have a good place to go 1st when trying to find a mint or rare frame/bike.
That black lemond looks awesome with the right set up (silver) but that bike wont sell ever at that price.
