I've worn off the heel guards on my old Diadora shoes (full carbon soles). Anyone have a suggestion of the best kind of adhesive to use to put on new caps? This is the model that uses only glue, no screws. The heel surface is flat.
Thanks.

Shoe Glue? Shoe Goo. That's the name, available in many larger hardware stores or on line. You should plan on clamping in place for best results. It takes about 24 hours to really harden. It really lasts.

I'd try 3M Fast Tack or 3M Super 77. Either can pe purchased at an auto parts store.

Barge Cement - it's what is used to put many shoes together in the first place. It's the real deal.

fwiw my Mavics with carbon soles delaminated while on a ride week long tour. I tried using shoe goo to fix them but didn't really have much success. I then took them to a cobbler and I don't know what adhesive he used but he reglued the entire sole and they are probably better than new now. I think a cobbler is going to be able to do a better job even if you use the same adhesive because they'll have a press. It was $20 for me and that's in manhattan so probably a cheaper job elsewhere.

+ 1 for the barge. Be sure to apply it to both the sole and the piece that came off, let dry for about 10 minutes than join together. Be sure your placing it correctly, once joined its a done deal.

When the original little rubber bumpers gave out, I made some new heel caps for my Shimano shoes from 1/8" neoprene. The neoprene is about as hard as a car tire, 80 durometer if I recall correctly. I made them to cover the entire heel area. Much, much better for walking. That's been a couple of years ago now and they still work great.

I used JB Weld epoxy to attach the neoprene after roughing up both the neoprene and shoe sole with 80 grit paper. On a flexible sole this rigid epoxy might not be the best choice, but on a carbon sole and especially on the heel there is no flex to contend with. The result is bomb proof.

And a little bigger heel is much nicer to walk in than a tiny little bumper thingy.
As you can see, my shoes don't get babied.

I also did something like this on my MTB shoes. I glued the same material on the instep for those times when I didn't quite get clipped in, but still needed some grip on the pedal that the oh-so-fancy carbon sole did not provide.

I have glued heel protectors to cycling shoe soles using superglue with great success.

Just leave the sticky surface on and apply the glue. Hold in place with masking tape.

I use this

Pick your size. I have used it for toes and heels, also used an appropriately sized half moon for the little round heel contact of a Sidi Genius sole.

Barge Cement http://www.bargeadhesive.com and Freesole https://www.mcnett.com/gearaid/freesole#10410 are two products used by pro shoe repair shops when stuff needs to be glued together extremely well.

Freesole is also excellent for repairing cut tires. I've used it for years with great success.
