just bought a wheel from ebay.

can anyone tell me what generation DA hub this is, and, since i'm a campy guy: this hub uses loose bearings yes? if i want to overhaul it, should be a matter of pulling it apart, cleaning, fresh grease and put back together, any tricks i need to be aware of?

to me and 3/16 bearing balls. and 11, not 10 balls, like most front hubs. Cones are unique to this hub and quite tall..make sure the cone is seated all the way in. The big cone shoulder can get hung up on the balls.

Blowup here, under DA and 7700

7700 all the way. Purtiest group ever made. And I say that as a Campy snob.

Also, as a campy guy, who rode 7700 for a long time those hubs are simply as good as they get.

Agree great hubs but wish shimano would make their cones, axles, locknuts a little more cross compatible. Starting with 7700, all their hub innards are proprietary...7700/7800/7810/7850/7900, including ultegra.

This. Everyone gets their knickers in a knot about how campy gets all proprietary (e.g. Chainring BHD) but seem to forget that Shimano really goes out of their way to make sure that there is no compatibility between groups. They are still doing this with Di2 within road groups and between road and MTB groups.

Definitely a 7700, I have a wheelset built with those hubs, very well made. Overhauling them is pretty straight forward, as Potato said the cones are a bit tall. Also, IIRC both the locknuts on each side take the same size cone wrench, 13 or 15 I can't remember but I remember having to go out and buy a duplicate size.

If you delace the wheel and send me the hub I will be happy to overhaul it for you and give it a good 5000km of shakedown ridding for you. ;)

Thanks Daryl!

this front hub is destined for my fixed gear bike which should be shedding some serious wheel weight this season without hurting durability much at all.

Not the original skewer. This looks like a cheap steel alternative, the kind provided for trainers but obviously a front. Not that it isn't durable, but the 7700 skewer is shaped similarly to the 7800/7850 ones, just lighter in color.

Looks like someone did a 3-cross 28 hole? You can do it but if you relace it at any point, DA hubs are fine with changing spoking pattern (just no radial on this particular vintage of hubs) and you might have a little better wheel with 2-cross.

I just took a 7700 front apart. Need a 13mm wrench for the cone nut and 14mm for the lock nut.

If any of y'all 7700 lovers are looking for a 24h rear hub and/or a CXP30 rear wheel, PM me.

Sold the matching front already.

...and yes, its listed in the classifieds.

Maybe I'm mistaken it for my suntour superbe hub, thanks for clearing that up though
