I have an older Serotta road frame that is missing it's bolt. I have a Serotta track frame with the same style binder (fastback I think it's called) and it looks to be the same. I don't want to use the wrong one and strip or damage the threads. I got a 6mm bolt from the hardware store and it seems to almost fit, but I didn't force it because again: I don't wanna damage it. Is there a standard size that maybe I'm not aware of? The yellow is the road, red the track.

Was the head of the bolt to big or were you having trouble threading it in?

Does the bolt from the red bike fit the yellow frame? Should be a standard M5 allen.

They will use an M6 x 1 bolt - typically 20mm long.

Head diameters can vary making the head a tight fit into the binder......is that what you are seeing?

I was reluctant to completely remove the bolt from the red bike because it gave me some resistance toward the end. I cherish that bike (Serotta Track, super rare) and didn't wanna mess up. Sounds dumb, but I'm clumsy. I bought a 6mm bolt because the 5 was too small/loose at the hardware store. Even though it's a 6mm, a 5mm Allen wrench fits the head. Same with the red bike, which is the one currently in use. I hope that all makes sense. And thanks for your help guys.

6mm is the size of the threaded portion of the bolt. A 6mm bolt most often has a 5mm used to install/remove it.
