Not saying much, but did my most mileage ever - and could have done a lot more if not for some issues that hampered me during june/july, and the fact that winter ended in April and started again in November. Lost about 25 pounds. Stopped using chamois cream. Lots of personal bests on climbs since I started using strava, but didn't quite hit my bests on two climbs from when I was about 20 pounds lighter than today.

Lots of resolutions and goals for 2015, but I'm pretty happy with 2014, all things considered.

Looking great Nick and your little girl is so cute!

2014 highlights well I must say it wasn't an impressive year but if I had to think about it : definitely my one month trip to Belgium, great riding and very happy times with the family, and more recently a Corsa Extra repainted by Noah Rosen (sorry for the bad picture).

2014 Accomplishments?

Work: worked too much and brought in 56% of 2013 gross commissions
Bike: did not ride near enough
Weight: poor eating habits and little exercise says it all
Relationships: too much time at work

I am a believer in personal responsibility, and I have no one to blame for my lack of accomplishments in 2014 except myself. Time to make and achieve some 2015 goals.

Congratulations to the rest of you.

Spent very little time (about 1200 miles) on the bike(s), but a lot of time chasing these two chicks around.

Even though I ended up buying/building two bikes this year... Lowest mileage YTD since I started riding 5 years ago... c'est la vie.

But I started lifting (following that stronglifts 5x5 plan I'd mentioned a while back), so that's good :)

Unknown mileage. Strava has me at 2,563, but I only started recording with Strava this summer, and I rode all through last winter too. So probably more like 3,500-4,000.... not incredible, but not insignificant.

I did my first CX race this year... got my ass handed to me in a reusable 100% post-consumer recycled shopping bag. 16 of 22 with 2 DNFs. I finished, though! Despite the shame.

Only did three sessions at the track over the summer, and thus finished almost dead last for the season....

But I'm training hard this winter, and am going to come at competitive racing with a degree of seriousness. Next year will be the first year I'll actually be in it to win it. Planning some big road races, and am going to jump into criterium with both feet. YEA

But, as a family man, the year's biggest news was this one.... our first girl

2nd year coaching my son in Lacrosse (I'm assistant coach, head coach is someone I ride with). Undefeated season and my son was lead scorer and scored 28 goals and I was there for every single one. Pic is of us, he's playing midi getting ready for face-off and U9 coaches are allowed on field which is why I'm there.

Lost a few rides in great weather, but it was worth it.

Lost a few rides in great weather, but it was worth it.

Took several autumns off a while back to help coach my youngest sons youth football team. One of the most rewarding & frustrating experiences at the same time.
Rewarding to have a hand in my sons development of character as well as an athlete. Frustrating due mostly to the parents of some of our players, who knew where to play the kids and how to call plays much better than we did. Funny though, how folk with basically no football experience knew more than us coaches who all played (and were starters) youth through high school & one in college. Oh well, that's a problem all coaches face so not a surprise.
Rewarding portion definetly outweighed the frustrating portion by a ton. My son (now in 9th grade) still recalls those days with a smile on his face. As do I.

I still do some off-season workouts with him during holidays & gaps in between school workouts. Mostly throwing to him while he runs pass routes and sprints/conditioning. I'd like to think those early days coaching laid the groundwork for our continued "workouts". Cracked me up a while back he told me I was in pretty good shape "for an old guy".

Not nearly enough riding, but as with many others, I am pretty pre-occupied with two little 'uns. My daughter started kindergarten three months ago, and that was a big deal.

Had a few very fun MTB rides this year that has reignited my interest in offroad riding. I have a few more years of riding with some abandon, so I would rather have fun now than ride too-cautiously in 5 years.

I work with great people, am married to a great person, am father to two great little people and have great friends. Not much to complain about!

Great year:

Located to the Ft Worth Area....Great move professionally and personally. Love the department/leadership that I am working for, and the guys that work for me are great.

My wife has wanted to be at home since we had my oldest (six years ago), and we were able to make this happen with the move. Marriage is great. Kids are happy, healthy, and as vibrant as could be (sometimes too vibrant :help: )

......and the riding and folks that I have found down here to ride with has been beyond a pleasant surprise.

I took delivery of a nice DeSalvo Ti bike and have been riding it most often of all the steeds.

My daughter's team won the national Parlimentary Procedure Contest title at the FFA nationals this fall, which was pretty much the highlight of everyone's year.

This is a birthday gift from my friends. It's supposed to arrive by the 30th, so it'll end up being more of an Christmas/New Years gift. It commemorates the completion of 3 fixed gear Super Randonneur Series (200k, 300k, 400k, 600k x 3) as well as getting my RUSA Cup on the fixed gear (100k, 200k, 300k, 400k, 600k, 1000k, 1200k, a team event and 5000k total). They give you 2 years to earn the Cup, but I managed to bang out all of the above in 8 months!

None of this was on the menu when I started out the season in January, but the stars seemed to align themselves, and even with a DNF of a 600k in May (which was uuuuuuugly. 110 degree heat, cramps, out of water, and 30 miles off course), things just happened to unfold organically. It was actually that DNF that pushed me to go for the 1200k.

My good friend Becky, who designed the jersey, is no slouch herself. She earned herself the California Triple Crown Stage Race on her fixed gear (that's doing 3 of the hardest doubles totaling over 45,000' of climbing) as well as racking up an amazing 10,000 randoneurring kilometers for her RUSA K-Hound, also on her fixed gear.

Looking forward to what 2015 throws my way. I've got a new Ellis incoming, so I'm forecasting fat tires and lots of dirt!!!

I had ridiculous good fortune this past year. My wife and kids were healthy and mostly happy. And I had some unexpected success at work: I took a new job and a project I worked on did surprisingly well. That said, I didn't get to ride nearly as much as I would have liked. But now that we're settling into our new house -- finally! -- I'm hoping to rectify that in the new year.

I had a pretty good year compared to 2013. Last year I had nagging Achilles tendon issues and they were taken care of. So yes I achieved my goals of a 3000 mile year, a fixed gear 200k and 300k brevet, and some great camping with family and friends. I really hope everyone had a great year and good luck on achieving your goals whatever they may be for next year.
Have fun.

Gave up on my streak of weekly centuries from 2013, think I'm at 40-45 for this year. Figured out that it is worth the time and hassle to drive the hour or so to ride in the aforementioned mountains, rather than leaving from my garage and staying local.

Met a local rider and fellow forumite! And have met up to ride quite a few times.

Oh, and NAHBS was a highlight.

tough year for all of us in the house with losing the girls' great grandmother, the 9-year-old breaking her elbow and in a cast all summer, the 6 year-old struggling to read, losing my father-in-law to cancer, and my lady holding strong through all of it.

makes us tough.

and we still got a bunch of wonderful stuff done, some of it even due to other sides of the hardships above. like our new car that we took (hours later) on the first family vacation in over 3 years. or having to wash my 9-year-old's hair again because she couldn't with her cast, and having her giggle about the silliness of it all, and us just being parent and kid again in a simple, caring way. like the six year old learning to read, and now reading everything she sees, and sounding things out that make no sense in english, like 'cinelli' and 'campagnolo'.

my local duathlon didn't run this year, so i did one in the city that happened to be nationals and won my age group after a crap spring of bike preparation. nailed it in the run, i guess. crap fall of run prep saw me hit a half-marathon PR the day after my father in law's funeral. i like to think he was with me on that one. and i logged more commuting miles, but on my nice bike, in september than i did in any month of straight riding before or after that. really got to know my strong, and it remains a thing of pure beauty and joy. crashed hard the other night on my way to christmas shopping, and the only time my hand didn't really hurt was when i was on my bike - 'cause that's where everything makes the most sense.

i love seeing your all's pictures from everything, and seeing how true and obvious it is that the best part of your years/lives is your family or your relationships. bikes are nice and all, but some things count a little more for some people, and it's beautiful to see. happy new year!

I met Dave Wiens and Rebecca Rusch (mountain bike champions). Both were very nice. Dave spent more time asking about me than me of him. Quality people.

Plenty of good rides with great friends.

But.... best of all - I got to watch my son compete in his first-ever mountain bike race.

It was a very good year. :)

New bikes -- Parlee Z5 SLi, Ericksen Road, Trek Superfly full suspension
Lost 10 lbs (down to 170) which helped riding as I felt slow last year
Riding with friends
Took the family on a London-Paris tour with Tauck: first time on a tour rather than a DIY- much more relaxing when the logistics done for you!

One bad though - sister seems to losing the battle with cancer (lung).

It's easy for me to forget just how much stuff we did this past year. It was an excellent one jam packed with cycling adventures with friends and travels with family. Avoided trips to the ER for the most part, and spent my time wisely with the kid, who is gonna be gone to college before we know it.

Cycling highlights include a spring Fleche (24 hour brevet), Quadzilla 4 day ride in the Finger Lakes (http://www.quadzilla.us/), D2R2 with the boys, and lots of great rides right in my own back yard. I made a commitment early this year to branch out and find new roads as often as possible. Amazing place we live; after 16 years here I'm still finding new roads all the time.

2014 was the first year since I stopped racing in 07 that I rode over 6,000 miles and I had nearly 3 months off the bike for one reason or another.

I also pimped my stable significantly but that's just stuff. I hadn't really bought anything new for nearly 10 years if you exclude a couple of Surly framesets I built up with used parts.

In 2014 I seem to have mastered getting good road miles in while camping with the wife and dogs throughout the summer. She's been flexible enough to schedule our travel plans around areas that lend to really good riding and even a few gravel events.

Also got back into what I consider good riding shape and have an excellent base going into 2015. It's nice to not have to worry about trying to drop 5-10 pounds while doing my winter miles.

Increasingly as of late, the bike mileage has decreased precipitously due to life getting in the way of leisure. Which is not complaining as to what's goin' on because it has all gone according to plan! HaHa better lucky than good any day of the week for me.

Went from 10+ bikes to one new Eriksen. All done as part of a change in zip code as consequence of a change in lifestyle. All wonderful and all still unfolding.

A good year. Family all good and 5-by-5 on good trajectories. All healthy save for my own side-swipe from an incompetent senior citizen motorist which broke my clavicle. With good health and good family, everything else pales in importance. Having a good year professionally is nice too.

I have been blessed and I am thankful. To all Paceliners I hope you had the same for 2014 and we'll work to make it better still for 2015.

A five year project (http://www.amazon.com/Fat-Tire-Flyer-Repack-Mountain/dp/1937715167/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top) came to fruition with the publication of my bicycling memoir, Fat Tire Flyer: Repack and the Birth of Mountain Biking (http://www.velopress.com/books/fat-tire-flyer/).

I sold my piano moving business to concentrate on publicizing the book.

It hasn't been an easy year but it did have it's shining moments. I left the job that I felt was ruining me and landed a job that I am enjoying (for now :) ) I started working on and selling bikes with a good friend of mine. I got my wife into bike commuting! My wife and I's marriage came through a rough patch and is now deeper and closer than ever. Freedom from most of our debts our within reach. There are a multitude of smaller things but to sum it up: I would say this year is ending on a high note.

Oh and to add I would say that finding this community on this forum has been a positive thing too. :)

In retrospect, 2014 has been a really good year.

My first grand daughter arrived on March 8.

Attended the NAHBS in Charlotte. Was too busy drooling to take any pictures!

I picked up a Ritchey Breakaway Cross for a trip to Alaska in Aug/Sept.

Within a week of arriving home, I found a Tangerine Look 585 that raised the bar on just how good a bike could feel. (No pics yet!?)

Helped my wife achieve her goal of riding 50 miles in celebration of turning 50 on the New River Trail in VA in October.

Overall, I'm fairly proud of having ridden over 5000 miles for the first time ever, including my first century...although I'm humbled by the incredible numbers posted by some of you guys (Mark in particular.) The majority of my miles were spent in the huge pocket created by my 6'9" son. We’ve had some great times along the way!

Mmm. 2014. just got used to writing that, now i have to work on 15.
on bike stuff, i got my usual 4500 to 5500 in. did acquire a new kirk.

and reading this post can i just say how it warms my heart to see all the fathers, some new, some not so new, pointing to their families as the highlight. as it should be. when we get that part right, nothing else comes close; and it puts everything else into proper perspective. even bikes.

merry Christmas, and a prosperous new year to each.

New Job, health, 2 new bikes (serotta ti and salsa warbird ti) and a loving family, cant ask for much more, except more time in the saddle. New job reduced my mileage to 25% of last years total, but getting out 2-3 days a week on the warbird this winter so far!

I have to say that this year is the worst I've had to date. I made it through with the help of friends. Still rode a super randonneur series. Biking kept me sane.
