I'm in the process of converting a Sun Ringle Black Flag Expert rear wheel from a 135 x 10 QR to 142 x 12 thru axle. There doesn't seem to be a ton of info out there. I know I need special end caps and it also looks like I need a new axle. Has anyone done this? Any feedback, suggestions, tech documents, etc?

You don't need to replace the axle, just the end caps (for 2012+ model wheels).

Note: if you have the 2010-2011 models, these won't work,as the hub dimensions are a little different. You'ed be stuck with the 135QR. If your Expert hubs take J spokes, they're the older model. If your hubs take straight spokes, they're the 2012+ models.

I do have the 2013-2014 model of the Expert with J spokes. These are supposedly convertible. The straight pull model you're referring to is the Black Flag Pro wheels (which are supposedly convertible using the same parts). I have a set of these as well...but they're staying QR.

I have the end caps you're referring to, and you definitely need an axle. I got the old end caps off, and the stock axle has an ID of just over 10mm. The OD is just over 12mm.

With the 142 end caps, the NDS one has a rubber o-ring on the inside...no threads. It does not fit on the stock axle. The new DS cap has threads...also will not fit on the stock axle.

I guess my problem now is that I can't find the sun ringle part number for the new axle (to accommodate 142 x 12).

Give Sun-Ringle a call or an e-mail. I understand they're pretty helpful.

Thanks. Once I get this sorted out, I'll post the resolution.

Cool! Let us know!

I have two friends running Sun-Ringle Black flags (my next door neighbor and his brother in law), both on 135QR's, so I know they'll be really interested to see what you find out.

Sun Ringle doesn't make the 142 axle. There are different "standards" from different makers. My lynskey uses a Shimano and I know Syntace makes one but there are probably others.
