I have a Vecchios cap that I've started wearing under my helmet during the winter, but the material is a bit thick under a close fitting helmet. Anyone know of caps made with thinner, windbreaker(ish) material. Quality would be appreciated.

...if you are looking or lightweight and breathable, then the Giro Peloton is the way to go....

I like the Icebreaker Pocket 200 Beanie (http://www.backcountry.com/icebreaker-pocket-200-beanie) because it fits so snug and it is thin, but it does not do much for wind-breaking. Merino wool, so it works when sweaty and does not stink. Two out of three ain't bad. I find it comfortable to a bit below freezing, once it gets into the 20s I look for something else.

Edit: I assume you are looking for something that covers your ears, not just a windproof cycling cap.

My team get's its kit from Hincapie, and our caps are made of a lightweight nylon-ish material. It is not the most comfortable cycling hat I have ever worn, but it does the job and I think the brim has the right amount of flexibility and stiffness so does its job on rainy days.

I am not certain if they sell these as part of their non-custom offerings, but probably available somewhere on line.

There's always option B: Use a thicker cap and take the pads out of your helmet.

Assos makes nice helmet liners/skull caps, summer and winter, and a gore like cycling cap. Showers Pass makes a gore like cycling cap. I find the Assos to be a better fit for my head.

Headsweats Shortie?

I really want a cap rather than just a beanie or liner.

My Assos cycling cap is great. It's on its third winter and it's my go to for riding in the cold rain. Still holding up well but I wash it out with lots of warm water after every use.

Walz moisture wicking cap? I have one and they are very comfortable and thin.

I really like the Giro Peloton cap, definitely has been my favorite to ride with FWIW.

Rothera caps...I wear one for cool and wet weather rides only, say 50 degrees down into the high 30's....skull cap below that and a mesh cap like Lou pointed out, when it's above 50. If you don't see one that speaks to you, Gary will also fab a cap with a single color and ribbon color of your choice, no extra charge.

another vote for the Giro. Thinnest, lightest cap I've ever worn. Much prefer it to the Walz, Pactimo or the Rothera (though I've only tried a wind/waterproof version of the latter).

This is what I was going to suggest. The simple black Rothera is hands down the most versatile and most comfortable cycling cap I've ever had.

go local thrift shop for $5-10 silk scarf. super thin, packs to nothing in your pocket if need be.

I purchased a few caps from a local producer named double darn here in Portland Oregon. They also have an Etsy as well as direct buying from their website. They have a mesh style cap too that's pretty sweet.
