Depends upon your prescription.

Depends upon your prescription.

Agreed.

If you're easy, then I can't help.

If you're hard, then Bret Hunter is your man: http://www.sportsoptical.com/

Second Bret if you have a hard prescription. He nailed my myopic, progressive lenses. Unfortunately he's not cheap.

I've been using Sports RX with mixed results - some very good experiences and some very bad.

Never had a bad experience with Bret

There was a longer than normal delivery time once - when he crashed his bike and injured his hand - added three or four weeks to delivery

I wouldn't necessarily call Sports Optical a "good deal" if someone is looking for a steep discount, but their work is top-notch and they really know their stuff (e.g., knowing which frames will accommodate which prescriptions, different lens features, etc.). I now have two pairs and am very satisfied with them.

If you do a search in the archives for "sports optical" you will get dozens of threads on the topic.

I just had some Oakley rx glasses made by my local Lenscrafters, they ran about $200 after the insurance picked up their share. It is the third pair of sunglasses I've bought from them that are used only for riding and all have been perfect. Took a little over a week to get them as the lenses are made at the Oakley lab.

The biggest selling point for Lenscrafters is that they offer a 1 year insurance policy for $25 that I can speak from experience is a great deal. The first time I used it I left a pair of sunglasses on top of my car and left for work, they fell off in my street and looked like most of my neighbors managed to drive over them, they were replaced no questions asked. I just bought my new Oakleys a couple of weeks ago and mentioned the regularglasses I was wearing had a small scratch, they were still covered and they had new lenses installed in less than an hour.
For me, I mountain bike quite a lot so the insurance is a huge selling point as I do face plant every now and then. My last face plant broke my tooth and left my glasses blemish free, if only I could insure my teeth for $25 as that was an expensive fix!

I decided to go single vision and got a very nice pair that I used all last season.

scored a Rudy Project Rydon II frame pretty cheap on ebay and took it to my eye doc who carries RP.

frames + exam + no-line bifocal + scratch resistant + polarized = $467

seemed expensive at the time, but it's been one of the best cycling purchases I've made.

Nothing but good experiences with SportRx (http://www.sportrx.com). After I had cataract surgery on my right eye, they expedited a new prescription right lens with next day air delivery.

^^^This

I'm hard. Bret came through like a champ.

Unfortunately he's not cheap.

And ^^^this also. Then again, why would you want to cheap out on something as important as your eyesight while cycling? I spent more money on a pair of glasses from Bret than I ever spent on any 6 glasses I've ever owned previously...and within a year, I bought another equally-expensive pair from Bret.

I got a pair of Ray-Ban Rx from Lenscrafters and my insurance paid the first $250. They are really good for summer cycling.
