Hello All:
For me, the shape of the Campy 9 sp ergo levers and hoods are just the best, both for looks and feel. Campy 8 sp, not so much.
But I have an excellent 8 sp groupset that I would like to put to use. Have any of you tried putting 9sp hoods on 8sp levers? Maybe filing the pointy bit of the 8sp body? Is it just a total mismatch? I'd be happy with "sort of fits".
Thanks,
Jim

OK, Campy has had 3 generations of ergo levers.

The first ergo lever are also known as "pointy" hood and were available in both 8 and 9 speed.

The 2nd gen ergos are also know as "round" hoods and available as 9 and 10 speed.

round:

The latest 3rd gen are what I call "gumby" hoods and available as 10 and 11 speed.

So, if you have like the first gen, then you should be able to find 9 speed ergos in that style.

If you have 2nd gen ergos, then it won't work and you'll have to get hte correct hoods. Good Luck!

Ah, thanks. I had forgotten about pointy 9sp.
My question is: Could I somehow make a rounded 2nd generation hood fit on a first generation lever?
Thanks,
Jim

I don't think so, the shape is different. Sell your 2nd gen hoods and buy some 1st gens, they're actually not that expensive at $22/pr:

Good Luck! :banana::eek::bike:

yeah, I have both pointy and rounded levers on different bikes. I used to feel the same as you, but now, its all good...just ride!

I've seen it done... The point was ground off and the hood forced on. The results were not good. Some (like me) really like the pointy lever. You don't want to devalue a set like that.

1999 and later levers are convertible to 8s, btw. buy some 1999 or later levers, convert, use 8s group.
