are there any off the shelf steel stems on the market for modern set-ups: 1-1/8 steerer and OS bars? similar to Salsa stems, but with the modern standards?
just curious, a quick google search turns up nothing obvious.

Tange makes a lugged stem:

Not cheap, but then again, it's a lugged stem!

Nitto CT-80, if 31.8 and 0* works for you.

Or Nitto Craft 5?

That may just be the stem for my Paramount 75th anniversary build. I'll need to send it to BMac's paint works for a bit of color enhancement and would have a cleaner look than the threadless stems with the removable face plate.

For the price of the CK stem, you can have a frame builder make one to your custom specs--length, height, angle, interface, and color. Erik at Alliance is making one for me.

What length do you want?
I had a friend / local frame builder braze me 2 of these stems a couple years ago: http://www.cycle-frames.com/bicycle-frame-tubing/NOVA-STAINLESS-STEEL-STEM-KIT.html

I'm only using one of them and could sell the other; I think its a 120 mm but would have to measure to be sure. Lugs are nicer than the Tange version, plus stainless! It's painted "lazer red" (got sprayed at the same time as a Mustang was being done in a local shop) and the stainless lugs are polished. Obviously it could be repainted to match a different frame (both stems match my 1981 Ciocc).

Or I'm sure my friend could braze another of those kits if you want to order something and were willing to wait for it.
