I fell in love at first sight with this (http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Vintage-Eddy-Merckx-Corsa-Faema-Road-Bike-Campagnolo-C-Record-55-cm-/400818887905?pt=US_Bicycles_Frames&hash=item5d52aadce1).

Looks a bit overpriced to me but I know nothing about vintage Campagnolo groups so I am not sure. I'd love to get the frameset but I know the Pro's Closet are not interested in parting out since I have asked before.

So how much would the groupset and wheels sell for? Anyone interested in a split purchase? :D

Cheers!

Tough one, very first gen CRecord, post Delta 'recall'. Made only about 3-4years.

NOS Colbatos with levers are easy $400 or so. Whatever the market will bear. Parted out easy in the $800+ range, maybe more.

beautiful bike and a time capsule. For a daily rider or even something used on occasion it seems a little pricey. I guess you have to be a fan:rolleyes:

Thanks Peter. That makes the frameset about $1500 then, plus shipping. It's very nice and appears in top condition but in my book it's too much for a Merckx, even a Faema, even with the flat top fork, even in mint condition.

Agree. Lots of Merckx frames, group much rarer.

Merckx Corsa framesets are great but not that great; the seller should have sourced a Corsa Extra if they wanted that much cash.

Here's a minty Faema Corsa in Brooklyn with Shimano 600 for $600

So a $600 Merckx frame? Wide range from not much $ to lots.

The premium is all for the group. Not for the frame, to your point.

A very nice C-Record example. But man...that's steep.

Woah. THAT is a bargain! Too bad it's not a 55 or I'd be driving to NY next weekend!

IMHO, This is one of those examples of when the whole is worth more than the parts. A vintage frame in great condition with period correct top-of-the-line Campagnolo (cobalto brakes!) is a great find. That's the group I would want to hang on that frame if I bought it seperately. Locating an entire group or trying to collect the parts would be more expensive. Buying the complete bike is the best way. Easy to update any cassette or small parts.
If you were to sell off the components what would you replace them with?

In this case I would agree 100%

Sometimes, the total of the whole does not equal the parts. This is one of those times!
Of course YMMV!

My Corsa was also $600, with shimano 600, which was so nackered, I donated some to Community Cycles, threw most away. Resprayed to Molteni..hangs in shop with 50th group on it.

If you're really interested you can contact them directly and work out a better price. The price, as stated above, is based mostly on the C Record group (it's condition and that its complete). It's only missing the Rohloff chain and Regina or Campy freewheel. I'd pay $1200. And then probably sell it.

if it fits you, and you want to ride it with period correct parts, it's worth about $2,500 to $4,000 USD.

i ride frames and parts from the era.

it's much cheaper to just buy the frame and build it up, vs. bidding and then trying to sell the parts....the parts are worth quite a bit more than just the frame.

stunning bicycle!
