Interesting piece from the Atlantic (http://www.citylab.com/commute/2014/12/the-secret-history-of-cars-begins-with-bicycles/383254/) on how road infrastructure was originally lobbied for by cyclists and how the same cyclists turned their bikes on cycling for automobiles.

read the story and you'll understand the headline ;)

Very interesting piece.

We discussed this a bit in this thread. (http://forums.thepaceline.net/showthread.php?p=1328071) But more from the perspective of the mechanics/engineers, not so much from the advocacy side. I'll probably pick up that book when it is published again.

Albert Champion won Paris-Roubaix in 1899. That race was motopaced (not sure if it was just that year, or that period) and his track cycling experience with motopacing allowed him to win....

After his cycling career, he "caught the car virus" just at the dawn of the automotive age, and went on to start several spark plug companies one of them being AC Spark Plugs which lives on to this day as AC/Delco.
