A very cool Ibis frame that some idiot came close to ruining by forcing a too
small a diameter derailleur clamp. Photos of before, the tool I made and after.
I had to notch the mandrel to clear the water bottle boss and once in position
tighten and tap with a tinners hammer.

Good job.

Next job for that tool should be lumping the head of the tool that caused you to need the tool.

Never imagine that could work :) Ran into a friends frame like 25 years ago with a problem like that, we thought in a similar solution but we did not have a single tool on hand.

Great solution, congratulations :)

We need a sticky with home made tools in here.

Is the notch in the lower cone there to allow it to pass the bottle boss? I like it.

Please zoom out! is that gas pipe with all-thread run inside? are you tightening a nut up top to draw the wedge up? how'd you tap the aluminum cones?

We need details!

For those of us that are not familiar with this, you inserted the tool into the seat post to push the bottom portion of the seat tube, between the water bottle bosses and bottom bracket, outward and back into shape from where it had been pinched from the too small derailleur clamp?

Yes.

I started with an aluminium tube, turned it to around 28.2 mm OD, cut a groove for a wire circlip to hold it together, beveled the inside of both ends 12 degrees, then cut it in half. I turned the 2 ends out of 3/4 solid with the same 12 degrees and tapped one for 3/8 allthread and one 3/8 pipe.

I'd be happy to let you borrow it but the Ibis frame uses a 28.2 post and if I'm not mistaken your Waterford uses a 27.4. It's too big.

That's OK, guy-pal. You gave me some ideas at the very least.
The Waterford uses 27.4 actually.

Actually your repair is pretty straight forward, you might be able to make one of these work:

There is exhaust pipe expander thing that could work aswell.
