Nice but front tube is too long for my taste.

Very nice, like the retro paint job. Hard to beat red.

I'd be interested in who's making the frame. Is there a price yet?

I like that. Geometry would suit me nicely. Straight blade steel fork is

What's a "front tube"?

These are a nice riding frame. Last time they made these I believe they were sub-contracted through one of Dedacciai's builders (yes, I know the tubes are Reynolds) ......

Like. Always been a fan of this older one, despite the 1" thread less:

Though the 2015 would be even better with chrome lugs!

Here's the link with more details, geo, etc.

Anyone know if this is likely to be available as frame set? Website didn't mention anything about it.

The bikes on either side of it in the Kona catalogue are $1,099 and $1,799 respectively.

There is no price yet listed for the Kapu but I expect it will likely be in the $1,700 -$1,900 range.

I know I looked at one back in the Orange frame level top tube days and if memory serves it was roughly $1,500 or so.

I think a great looking frame with excellent, modern, middle of the road specs. lowish bb, highish headtube, good steel. If available as a frameset only, I think they'd compete well with the likes of Black Mountain, Soma, Surly, etc. Less slope top tube would be even better. It's as if someone at Kona is actually paying close attention to the market and building things the market wants. Oh, and that website is pretty damn well put together too. I like the dealer shoutout at the bottom of the pages.

$1999 right here:

Interesting that the price shows on the U.S. website, not on the CDN. One yet. They make some really good bikes and are usually the first place I look when I get an itch.

FWIW - when the Kapu was in the line up last time, you could buy the frameset separately though it wasn't advertised well. The website used to have a link to the "frame shop" where you could buy certain of the framesets by themselves.

I wonder why they used the RS500 crankset instead of 105. Looks? Both seem to be about the same price.

And funny that the website calls the cassette a freewheel.

I wanted one 6 years ago, never saw one or found one locally so I forgot about getting one. Have only seen a handful in the used market, always too big.

efuentes, nice ride what size?

Kona makes smart bikes. They are not boutique by any means (except for that AWESOME DH bike for sale in the classifieds) but good engineering trumps fine craftsmanship in certain circumstances.

I owned an old Kona 29er hardtail that was such a nice ride and it was nothing fancy.

These Kapu frames look great and I am sure will be totally useful tools for all kinds of riding. I especially like the photo of the one with the knobbies underfoot - I can't believe that there's clearance for tires that big!

I'm not seeing the Esatto Ti frame listed anymore, but it was a very cool frame. Low-ish BB, clearance for wide tires, long reach brakes, titanium...

They list a similar bike in aluminum now: the Esatto (http://www.konaworld.com/esatto.cfm); I'd wonder whether it was available as a frameset only, but I just bought a CAAD10...

I agree that they (and Salsa) are making some very interesting bikes. Sorry for any thread derail.

I always wanted one of these too. I would occasionally see the older (lugged) ones at rides. Beautiful. I am thinking of purchasing a new one. Has anyone done so already? The dealer says they are on order. I can't find any reviews but judging from the tubeset it probably rides like a dream. The components are very-well spec'd too IMO. Would look hot with 50mm carbon wheels!

Knobbies? Wow. What sort of tire clearance is on that frameset?

Kona make (or made) a really nice Ti framed MTB. Hand welded. I would love one but have only ever seen them available in my size twice. Both times were the wrong times.

But I keep hoping.
