View Full Version : Name that Italian climb

I am sure I saw a picture on this forum a few days ago of a climb, in Italy, up a valley wall- typical switchbacks, with those short tunnels that are there to prevent avalanches from sweeping the road away rather than in order to bore through obstreperous bits of mountain rock.

It's similar too, but not, San Boldo.

The picture looked autumnal if that jogs anyone's memory?

wow! that is one sweet road.

the difference between Neil and I?

He calls it a climb, i'd call that one a descent!

really cool pic, thanks for bringing to our attention.

Europe is just too cool

Hah, well - you get to descend once you've climbed, but yes, I'd love to ride up that.

Does anyone know the name of the actual road?

If I can nail down exactly where it is I will ride it in 2015.

There's a similar, probably even more incredible, picture of a series of switchbacks somewhere in France, leading up to a house / building perched at the edge of a mountain, overlooking a valley. Looks unreal when your first see it, but apparently it does exist. Not sure what it's called, but it has been posted on the forum.

Edit: Someone will remember where it is and post a link.

Velotel has been up them a couple (http://forums.thepaceline.net/showthread.php?t=147124)of times (http://forums.thepaceline.net/showthread.php?t=151319).

I'm pretty much an atheist (in the conventional religious sense), but I think if I climbed that road, I would pray at that Chapel.

The switchbacks in the andes are like that but like 3 or 4 times longer. Sucks :D

Really? I assume they'll be going up. What mess that will be.

And a sure way to get more tourists to visit.

A video, with some drone footage. That is super-narrow: link here (http://www.francebleu.fr/infos/cyclisme/tour-de-france-la-decouverte-des-spectaculaires-lacets-de-montvernier-1889784)
