I have an older rando with down tube shifters and canti brakes. i'm upgrading to Deda Piega handlebars (short reach) and i now need brake levers with a modern hood shape that will make for a nice flat transition from bars to hoods.

Does anyone have lever recommendations please?

Thanks, Jason.

TRP RRL SR. Look no further. Be sure to use the plastic inserts for perfect flat transition. I only wish it also worked as a shifter.

Rrl, no doubt.

I am a fan of TRP products but not those RRL levers. They seat too high and if lowered they feel really weird. Perhaps other riders like to ride them high. I like SRAM S500/S900 levers much better. Campagnolo 10-speed Record based levers were nice but they are no longer made. Another nice and more expensive option would be Shimano's Alfine Di2 levers but you have to strip the guts out of the right one, as the left one already stripped.

I've been thinking about using Tektro RL340s. Anyone have thoughts on those?

Cane creek has them too.

I find them bulky and ugly. The old campy clones (r200) were much better. More comfortable and better looking.

Find a pair of original Tektro R200's. Much nicer and better looking levers than the newer ones. I find them superbly comfy.

Fortunately, tektro still makes those under contract for a few people. Note CX0

Old Campy 10 speed "Escape" levers make excellent brake levers when gutted.

I'm a big fan of Shimano SLR levers. Paired with the right bars, they have a very smooth transition to the hoods.

+1 on SLRs....provided the hoods are in good condition. good luck on finding replacement hoods at a reasonable price. great lever though!

Well, i decided to try out the TRP RRL levers.

The shape of the lever blades has me thinking. What is the reason for the 'knuckle' one third of the way down the front of the blade? My fingers feel that it just gets in the way when my hands are on the hoods.

I'm unconvinced.

Thanks, Jason.

p.s. the Cane Creek levers seem to have a smoother blade shape.
