yeah, I think there is a movie franchise about people who escape death, and then death keeps coming back for them... first the door flies off his plane in mid-flight, and now this.

I heard he was sprinting against Cavendish, and Cav leaned into him to take the line. 😋

Today.com reports that U2 frontman Bono faces a long road to recovery after crashing on a bike ride in New York City’s Central Park on Sunday.
The singer attempted to avoid another rider and was involved in what doctors have called a “high energy bicycle accident.” Bono was rushed to New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center’s Emergency Department and underwent “multiple X-rays and CAT scans” followed by five hours of surgery.
The singer suffered numerous serious injuries, including a “facial fracture involving the orbit of his eye,” three separate fractures of his left shoulder blade, and a fracture of his left humerus bone in his upper arm. The latter injury was particularly damaging, with the bone shattering in six different places and tearing through his skin.
According to orthopedic trauma surgeon Dean Lorich, MD, “[Bono] was taken emergently to the operating room … where the elbow was washed out and debrided, a nerve trapped in the break was moved and the bone was repaired with three metal plates and 18 screws.” On Monday, Bono underwent a second surgery to repair a fractured left pinky finger.

That sounds like one heck of a wreck. It is a fairly high impact break when it involves the scapula (shoulder blade) as that is a very hefty mass of bone. Not like breaking a collar bone which as a bone goes, is very easy to break.

Best of luck to him on the mend.

Hmmm. Either Dr. Lorich's grammar is a lot better or a lot worse than mine.

. . . must have really slammed into him, judging by that list of injuries.

Elbow alone is a worse version of what I had. Open instead of closed, broken distal end of the humerus into many, many pieces.

That alone is going to take a while to bounce back from. Can't even imagine the broken shoulder and orbital.

Hope he's on the mend soon. Not a big fan of his music, but that kind of crash really sucks.

Well, at least he probably has easy access to a lot of pain killers that us non rock stars have a hard time getting. Just tap one of the roadies on the shoulder.

Recently saw him and the boys on Later With Jules Holland on Palladia. If anything, that is the fittest old guy rock group ever. The other three guys are super lean. I mean, bike all the time and never drink stout lean. I guess he was trying to get his gut down and look like them. Whoops. Man, how in the heck did he break the upper arm? Fall on a curb?

Since his is the worse version of what I had, I'll say that mine happened as my elbow came down first with my body weight landing on it not to long after. Hands were still on the bars as I went down pretty quick. Elbow wasn't really designed to stop a fall, so the distal end shatters into many pieces. Thankfully mine wasn't open, but it hurt. A lot.

I think that works. As an emergency case, instead of routine.

Now we just have to take car of his voice box.

Are you saying someone needs to ram him with a car to get this accomplished?

All the best to Bono, I hope he gets back on the bike at some point soon.
