Something for riding outside, not on a trainer, for using mapping software. Suggestions?
Thank you

I've got to ask, what will you be doing with an ipad mini on the bars???

I think my garmin 500 is pushing it size wise...

This sounds like a pretty terrible idea. Why are you staring at a map so much that you need it that big? And just think about what happens when you crash with that on your bars. Not pretty.

That doesn't sound very aero.

The new iPad Air is very aero, and light!

Yeah put me in the not such a great idea column...

I put a RAM mount on the stoker handlebars of our Tandem so my daughter could mount her phone. As a joke I put the IPad mount from the backseat of our car on the handlebars for our ride one day.
My daughter had a great time goofing around with the iPad that afternoon but it wouldn't be safe if she needed to do a fast dismount.

Paper maps still work if you need large format cartography.

I'd bet it would fit in the cue sheet holder on a rando bag. Otherwise, you'd need to DIY. Maybe a clipboard zip tied to the handlebar/stem and some HD velcro.

I wonder what would happen if a texting driver and an iPad Mini-reading cyclist were to meet at an intersection. Somewhat of a scary thought.

Great idea for touring.

I have used an ipad and wished for a mount. I see no reason why it's any more of a distraction than a Garmin etc.

Too many Freds afraid they look too much like a Fred IMO.

RAM mount works great. very solid. I use one on a motorcycle and imagine if it hasn't fallen off after 11,000 miles this year of commuting in and out of NYC it should be fine on a bicycle.

Thanks for the helpful responses carefully inserted amidst all the advice :-)

I thought it might be quicker/easier to stop and look at the map if mounted on the handlebars vs. pulling it out of my pack. I thought it might be possible to ride without looking down at it continuously but maybe not? Always new challenges to face!

I did look on Amazon and the number of products there were what prompted me to ask if folks here had actual experience with any. Thanks much for the info on the RAM mount, that one looks to be the best of the bunch.
