I need to work on my stem fit on my old RB-1. I am looking for a new frame but in the interim I am not going to stop riding.
I moved my seat backwards and now I need to get a shorter stem. I also think that a bit of rise or 0 degree vs my nitto pearls negative rise would be better for climbing on this bike. It just seems the bar is a tad low for me.
Getting a threadless adapter would allow me to swap stems to get the right fit without all the grief of removing tape etc.
Is there a downside to going threads with an adapter?

to me they often look kludgie. the transition from one to the other...you can tell it is a "make do."

I've used threadless adapters on several bikes without problems including longer gravel rides.... No real downside other than dealing with the 'skinny neck' aesthetics. I'm currently running an adapter on a recent acquisition that I'm not sure will be a permanent addition. Once I get fit settled and decide if its one I want to keep, I'll invest in a quill for it. Hope this helps!

These offer a nice looking transition to threadless. http://www.jejamescycles.co.uk/cntry-us/bbb-aheadstem-steerer-tube-extender-id21879.html?gclid=Cj0KEQiAm_eiBRCWgIfq9pK1nZsBEiQ AGqUcSW03Rb9gcrf_oQBZzwzGBE-ZtCro0opRJLn0uHyQj78aAgj48P8HAQ

That looks pretty good.
I may do as above and use to to figure out some dimensions that work and find a good quill once I do.
