Are these fake?

I was looking at this wheelset and I thought they seemed suspicious. I have never heard of HED using blue nipples but I'm not HED expert. I messaged the seller and got a response saying "they're basically a HED ardennes cl wheelset with blue nipples"

Any ideas?

well he has 100% positive feedback from quite a few sales and has other HED sets listed as well so it looks good to me. He wrote "built with blue nipples" so maybe he buys HED components and builds wheels himself?

It does say custom built...I wouldn't worry as long as you're good with not knowing who custom built them

That is what I thought but the hubs look brand new which is why I am suspicious.

Good eye, I totally missed that (even though it is in the auction title). Shimano compatible Ardennes have been 11 spd compatible for years. Either a typo or old parts. I would definitely get clarification before bidding.

Can ya even buy HED hubs alone? Is it a wheelset? Pictured a front wheel but he talks about a 'wheel'.

$1200 or so wheelset, $300 bid. 'onlinebkeparts', there's one in Amsterdam(?)...I'd be suspicious but if they go for not a lot of $...

I wouldn't put it past a cycling obsessed fashionista to buy a pair of Hed wheels, then have them rebuilt to get the blue nipple look he desired.

no, seriously - HED used to sell overstock wheels through an account alias bikehooha (full warranty and everything) which then changed names a few times. this appears to be the same thing.

i know everyone here loves to be a skeptic, but those look legit.
