View Full Version : Does anyone make such a steel 1" fork?
Requirements are:
Threadless
Clearance for 28s
Fender eyelets
Caliper brake drilling
Soma makes (or used to make) one but it seems to be out of stock and for just a bit more I could get a custom one. Any cheaper alternatives?

Any reputable builder who works in steel.
Might try IF, Soma, Vicious, etc. for off the hook.

Tange Prestige fork. Bought one on ebay.
Havent tried 28s because my campy brakes wont clear em but I think they will clear that tire size.

Erik Rolf at Alliance Bicycles. He will build whatever you need. Crown, unicrown, straight, curved, big clearance, eyelets, choice of tubes...

I would think Dave Kirk, Carl Strong, Steve Rex and Tom Kellogg as well
I think IRC sells non custom steel 1" forks

I had similar needs (except I went with mini-v brakes) and went with a surly cross check fork, 1" threadless. It is drilled at the crown too, but you're going to have a hard time finding calipers with the kind of reach necessary for it.

I PM'd you. How long of a steerer tube do you need?

Yeah, I considered it but came to the same conclusion regarding brake reach. Could always do mini v in the front and caliper in the back...
Thanks for all the suggestions. Seeing how most of you recommended custom I take it there aren't really any off the shelf solutions. Used isn't really an option either since I'd want a 300mm+ steerer.
I'll most likely just get one made at Marinoni since it's only a few bucks more than a Soma and it would be going on a Marinoni frame after all.

and it will be way less expensive than any custom. Maybe way less better, but not sure about that:

As long as you're ok with chrome, this is a pretty good option.

Thanks, that looks like a possible solution. As for custom being way more expensive, Marinoni will do one for just a couple bucks more than the Tange above.

If you are interested in a lowish-trail design, I've got a superb custom Curt Goodrich fork that would work very well. Rake is about 55mm, steerer is about 310mm, 1" threadless, caliper brake, fender mounts, etc. PM me if that would work for you!

Looks like it only comes in 1 1/8".

I'll PM you but I'm guessing it's over my budget.
Mr Marinoni
Yep, that's looking like the best option. And it is for a Marinoni frame after all...

i just bought one of these. not the lightest thing in the world, but a really nice lugged fork, none the less. cant beat the price either.

Aha, 1 inch..
With the U.S. dollar high right now, Signore Marinoni is probably the way to go for you. A bargain for a custom 1 inch fork south of the border would be Gunnar. They do excellent work. Forks run around $250.

^^ Don't do it, unless it's going on a cargo bike..
Weighs more than the muffler on an F250.

In your shoes, that would end the selection process for me unless it would take Mr. M forever and a day to build it. Maybe even then.

Rivendell sells steel forks. I don't remember if any are threadless. I just searched their site and didn't find forks listed. It might be worth a phone call to see if they still have one or expect a new batch soon.
